Jim Archer

In Memorial

ARCHER, JIM ONLINE AND NEWSPAPERIt is with great sadness that the family of Jim Archer announces his passing on August 30, 2023, at his home in Beeton, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marijane. He was the loving father to Scott, Kelly and father-in-law to Maryann. Jim was a proud grandpa to Zakari, Aimee, Masyn, Samantha (Peter), and Victoria. He was a loving fur-daddy to his cats Dudley and Dolly.

Jim was born in 1940 in Toronto. He spent his youth playing on Franklin Avenue (Yonge & Sheppard), exploring Mount Pleasant Cemetery and establishing himself as an award-winning Toronto Star paper boy. Jim attended Earl Hague Collegiate Institute in Willowdale and saw the opening of highway 401 (1952), the Toronto subway (1954) and impact of Hurricane Hazel (1954).

As a young adult, he worked for the University of Toronto as a Plumber, he built a cottage in Muskoka, and spent winters on beaches in Mexico with his white convertible. After returning from Mexico in the late 1960s, he met Marijane and they married in 1969. In 1972, he and Marijane moved to Beeton, Ontario where they built a family home on the 15th sideroad. Children Scott and Kelly soon followed.

As a husband and father, Jim was a Hockey Coach, Boy Scout Leader and all-around sports supporter. He would take his family on annual camping trips to Killbear Provincial Park creating lifelong memories.

Jim was an avid golfer from a young age. He won or placed in many tournaments throughout his life. There are many fond memories from friends, family, and playing partners at Pete’s Ponderosa in Beeton and the Carrying Place in King. He was known affectionately on the course as “Arch”.

In 2002, Jim retired from the University of Toronto. As a retiree, he golfed, moved to a new house on Main Street in Beeton, celebrated the marriages of his children and the birth of his grandchildren. He even met Canada’s 21st Prime Minister.

Jim lived a happy and full life. He loved his family, loved to golf and enjoyed social gatherings with friends and family. He died 4 weeks after his last game, where his shots found the fairways and putts found the holes.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-5pm on Sunday October 1, 2023, at the Gibson Centre (Mercer Pub) located at 63 Tupper Street West, Alliston. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Stevenson Memorial Hospital or Matthews House Hospice in Alliston. As per his wishes, a cremation has taken place.

As he would affectionally say at the end of every of day: “Good Night Dick”….. with the response “Good Night Harry”, Jim has moved to his 19th hole with the birdies and eagles. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.
