I am so sorry to read of the passing of Hans. Hans was a peer at Air Canada of my late husband, purser Miguel Monast. His name often came up in conversations of their flights over the 1980s years at this base. I am sure you cherish the many stories Hans has shared of that wonderful career in those glory days of flying. My condolences. Bill Gregory Terlecki

    Derek, Karen and family –

I offer my sincerest condolences to the passing of your father. Although I didn’t know him very well, after reading the messages I was able to get a snapshot of who he was and that he will be sadly missed by your families as well as by many others outside of your family.

My thoughts are with your family at this time.

    Kindes regards,

Karen, Derek and families, please accept my sincerest condolences for the loss of your father. He will be deeply missed.
Hans came to our home in Toutes Aides, Manitoba during the fifties when I was very small. He made a huge impression as a Jimmy Dean look alike and I was in awe of him. I understand that he had seen our trunks and labelled suitcases in Breda, the Netherlands in April of 1951. Like thousands of other Dutch people, we emigrated to Canada and Hans made up his young mind that he was going too.
He always kept in touch with my parents and loved his early years in Manitoba. Then he had his distinguished career with Air Canada.
God bless you all during this difficult time.

Our most sincere condolences to Karen, Dave, Derek, Charo and Families.
We will always remember Hans with great fondness for his love of family, Dutch heritage and culture, travel and gardening. He had the most beautiful garden of Peonies in Tottenham and his home was filled with collectibles of Air Canada, Holland, Airplanes, Trains and Barbados treasures. I remember sitting in the living room enjoying some fine Barbados Rum and listening to The Merrymen his favorite Calypso band from his favorite island in the Caribbean, Barbados. He had the most epic stereo system of the time and I remember being in awe of that turntable spinning his vinyl records for us to enjoy. I will always remember him as a very dapper gentlemen who loved to dress up even though often I would come to the house and he would be wearing shorts even in the coldest winter months. He was a blessed father and grandfather to have such caring and devout children. He will be greatly missed. May his memory bring Peace to all his family and friends.

    Dear Karen, Derek and family,

We’re so grateful that we met each other during the trip together with Peter and Carla in 2024. It is such a nice memory to see how Hans enjoyed the dutch songs. And of course enjoying the Coffee moments together… with Timbits.

    For ever in our hearts!

Hans was a gentle giant in the Marchand family. He was fiercely devoted to his family and his love of them all was evident.
Despite the ravages that Parkinson’s assaulted his body with he maintained his dignity, his patience and his kind sweet disposition.
He was always up for a good time whether it was a day trip to Georgianbay or a quiet afternoon enjoying the family at the Weldrick house.
Our fondest memory of Hans is the day he got into Kev’s mustang for the ride of his life…let’s just say he had a big smile plastered to his face and sore hands from hanging on after that Sunday afternoon drive!
We spent many sunny afternoon’s with Han’s talking about his career, his love of Holland and his family. We will cherish this time we spent with him forever.
Grief is the price you pay for love and Hans will be missed by so many.
    Much love
    Kevin and Andrea Sheehan

I was so sorry to hear of Hans’ passing. I have such fond memories from childhood visits to the Marchand home on the Boulevard in Tottenham. Hans was one of those people who had a way of making you feel instantly known and remembered.

I’ll always smile thinking about the day I showed up wearing a white shirt with a grey Coach logo — from that moment on, I was forever “Grey Coach.” What made that nickname so special was that it never faded. When I visited Hans during his hospital stay a couple of years ago, it took only moments for recognition to spark, and then, just like no time had passed at all, he greeted me with, “Hey, Grey Coach.” That moment will stay with me always.

Reuniting with any of the Marchands has always felt like familiar souls simply picking up where we left off, and Hans embodied that warmth and continuity so beautifully. I know he is now reunited with Joyce, and I hope there is comfort in imagining them together again.

My deepest condolences to Karen & Dave, Derek & Charo, Kaitlyn, Adrian, Meagan, Landon, Jorge, Karla, and all who loved him. Hans left a lasting impression, and his spirit will be remembered with great affection.
