Colleen Butler

In Memorial

Butler Colleen 2Butler, Colleen

Passed away gracefully, surrounded by family and friends at Matthews House, Alliston on February 2, 2026 at the age of 50. Much loved daughter of Jay and Peggy, loving wife and partner to Craig, and the best Mom to Lily (Alessandro), Nathan (Diana) and Owen. She was an amazing sister to Jamie (Anne), Mary, and Trish (Elise). Colleen was the “cool” aunt to Ellery, Calleigh, Maya, Lia, J.J., Ellis, Lukas and Niklas. Beloved daughter in law of Anne Butler (the late Doug), and dear sister-in-law of Geoff (Johnna), and Rod (Jessica).

Colleen is remembered by friends and family as a strong, graceful and especially kind woman, whose roots and ties ran deep to her hometown community of New Tecumseth.

After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas in Tottenham, she attended King’s College at Western, where she met her husband-to-be Craig, while she worked as the after hours receptionist, and he as the after hours security guard. She completed a degree in Political Science, and continued her education at the Universities of Ottawa and Carleton, earning a Law degree and her Masters of International Affairs.

After graduating, she began her law career at Fraser, Milner, Casgrain in Toronto, and then moved north, back to Tottenham, to help raise her growing family. She continued her law practice as a partner at Feehely Gastaldi, and threw herself into various volunteer endeavours in the community. Over the years, she has volunteered on the boards of many non-profit and community organizations, such as Stevenson Memorial Hospital, CLASS, Next Step Literacy Council, CANAAF (Alopecia), and the Adjala Credit Union.

In her spare time, you could usually find her reading next to HER dog, Ringo, aiming to maintain an uninterrupted and successful Wordle streak, working on a puzzle, travelling to places near and far or hiking local trails with family and friends. She was a genuine, whip-smart, empathetic, funny woman whose infectious smile and laughter could not be dampened even, as she would say, “by stupid cancer”.

The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477, on Sunday February 8, 2026 with Visitation from 10am-1pm and 3pm-6pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church Colgan 2118 Adjala Tecumseth Townline Tottenham, on Monday February 9, 2026 at 10:30am. Reception will follow at The Gibson Center 63 Tupper St. W. Alliston beginning at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation or CLASS, in memory of Colleen Butler. Your contributions will support vital healthcare services in our community. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

What a beautiful tribute to Colleen at the funeral – Kelly’s remembrance speech, a lovely mass and all the speeches from every family member were beautiful, touching and poignant. Colleen inspired me with her dedication to many community boards, her hard work as a lawyer and raising a beautiful family but perhaps it was her smile, laughter and kindness that radiated most! My sincerest sympathies to Peggy, Jay, Craig and family. Sending prayers and love as you navigate through this time of loss. She is in good hands and her spirit will live through this town for years to come.

To the Feehely and Butler families,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Colleen’s passing. Growing up just down the street, and having known the Feehely family since childhood, I had the pleasure of having Colleen in my life. Our high school days at St.Thomas was where I really began to learn that she was someone special—kind, intelligent, friendly, and quietly strong. Reading about her life and all that she accomplished only reinforced what so many of us always sensed about her character.

To Jay and Peggy, my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your beloved daughter. Jamie, Mary T, and Trish, may the memories you’ve made as siblings live on forever. To Craig, Lily, Nathan, Owen, my thoughts are with you as you grieve someone who was so clearly the centre of your world.

Colleen’s love for her family, her commitment to her community, and her warmth as a person touched many lives. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and connection that will not be forgotten.

Holding you all in my thoughts and sending strength and comfort in the days ahead.

    With sincere sympathy,

I cannot tell you how deeply saddened I was to learn that Colleen lost her battle to cancer last week. I keep remembering how we worked together when you were expecting her and discussing what to name her. I loved that most Irish of names and how happy I was that you chose it for your first daughter. Those were some of your earliest happy times, followed by many, many more over the years as she grew up to be a remarkable young woman. May the Lord grant you peace and comfort and know that you have my sincerest sympathy.

I feel grateful I had the opportunity to work with Colleen during her time on the Stevenson Memorial Board of Directors. She was incredibly kind, generous with her time, and truly inspiring. Her warmth and thoughtfulness was felt by everyone who knew her.

She cared deeply and loved whole-heartedly, a joy to know, and a beacon of strength and courage as she faced every challenge and celebrated every day. My deepest condolences to the entire family. Colleen was one of the kindest souls I have ever met, with a sharp wit and great sense of humor. I was blessed to have coffee and chats with her regularly. She loved the community, and volunteered her brilliance on numerous committees and Boards. I had such deep respect for her as a wife, mom, daughter, sister, lawyer and volunteer. She was a fantastic Board Chair of SMH-helping shape the current design and vision for a new hospital . I enjoyed her insights on local politics, healthcare, parenting, and raising a pet. My heart aches with all her friends and family.

What I will also miss is seeing her walking the kids to school in the morning, going for her walks with Ringo in town, or seeing her on the trails. Our conversations were never dull, and were always full of wit, humour, and so much laughter.

The Butler family is the most genuine family you could meet, and we are deeply grateful to have crossed paths with them. Mr. Butler was our grade school teacher, and Colleen was always a beacon of warmth, always offering smiles and kind words whenever we’d cross paths. Lily’s talent, and her time spent dancing at NJSD, remains a cherished memory. The way Colleen volunteered at the NJSD 20th year recital with such joy and laughter showed the heart of this amazing family. My family and I are deeply sorry for your loss, and we send our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. You’ll be in our hearts, always.
