It is with sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Gary Francis Hogan at Bethell House on September 10, 2026, in his 76th year.
Gary was the loving husband of Lenore Ruth (Bagshaw) for nearly 49 years and soulmate for over 57. He was the proud father of Dr. Mary (Clayton) Pickering, Colleen (Geoffrey) Hastings and Noel (Nicole), and “Pa” to Thomas and Leo Hastings as well as Rory, Patrick and Cedric Hogan.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Leo and Margaret (née Blaney), brother Michael (Marianne) and sister Janis (Ronald Weldon), and will be remembered by his nieces, nephews and extended family.
Gary treasured his community of Connor and relished his many friends and neighbours.
Visitation will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham, 905-936-3477, on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Achill, 2458 Concession Rd. 4, Loretto, Ontario, immediately followed by interment at St. James Cemetery in Colgan.

We have only known Gary since May 2012, but from the beginning of our living at Connor’s Corner, Gary and Lenore, became our friends. I think a new sign should go up on the North West Corner, of Connor , “ G and L Hogan’s Corner”, they are after all the real Connor , and yes Gary was a real Character, a good one that enjoyed life. For as long as I can remember, Gary Francis Hogan was not only my cousin but also my friend and, most importantly, my blood brother.
I was always in awe of Gary because he could do things I only wish I could. He was a certified electrician, auto mechanic extraordinaire, he built his own house but what amazed me more than anything is how this scrawny red head kid from East York became a very successful hay farmer in this place called Connor.
My life will not be quite the same without him.

In my mind, Gary always got more enjoyment out of life, then anyone I knew, and he showed this in so many ways! I could hear it in his voice when he and Lenore were talking about decisions that concerned htheir home, and children, or consulting about how to deal with a customer, when a hay delivery was going to be made, or what was happening with their children. Gary demonstrated his pride in his children by talking about their accomplishments, (Mary in the Medical Field, Colleen the teacher, and Noel in construction). When his mother was alive, Gary showed us his humourous side by giving his mother a battery-opperated cat for Christmas. When you pushed a button, this cat would meow like it was ready to fight, it would hiss, and then it would say, “Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty”. This cat sounded so real that it scared everyone, (Well, Except Gary of course). I’ll never forget how hard Gary laughed. Gary enjoyed working with his hands. If he wasn’t building something on his property, he would be working on a car, or some other project. I think that one of the most important qualities about Gary was his ability to take something negative, and find something posative. I remember visiting Gary and Lenore in their home, and they were finishing a conversation about their business. Gary described himself as “Being At The Bottem Of The Totem Pole”. I asked him why he would say that about himself, because I believed that it sounded negative. Gary simply laughed, and then said, “The Bottom Of The Totem Pole is the most important position to have, because without a good solid bottem, the entire opperation will sink”. Gary’s love of life, will be missed by his family, friends, and members of his community.
