How sorry I was to hear of John’s passing. I remember him as a lively, passionate, enthusiastic lover of nature and all things outdoors.
Visits to the Northwood place as an impressionable teen were filled with energy, laughs and adventures, as well as wonderful hospitality and articulate discussions on many diverse topics. I can only imagine how much John/Dad/Grandad will be missed and how much of his vibrant personality must surely live on in his children, grandchildren….

To my cousin Barbara and all the Northwood family my deepest condolences. John will leave a void in our family but we all have some very happy memories of the times spent together.
John was my sponsor when I immigrated to Canada in 1967 and he always teased that I stilled owed him half of my salary! He welcomed me into the family with no conditions, and for that I have always been extremely grateful.
John I know you are at peace, well deserved after such a busy and fulfilling life.

John was the lynchpin of our family. We all depended on his advice and his steadfast care for all of us. He left us with a love of nature and taught us to appreciate the land around us. We will all miss him terribly but will cherish all the good times he added to our lives.
My love to all the family

Our prayers are going out to the Northwood family. It is sad to lose Uncle John who as a little kid I remember him as the big kid who was so much fun! He gave me my 1st job landscaping at his company as a teenager & it inspired me to start my own landscaping business. You taught me a stick shift in a car is the only way to go. Glad I got to see you & Barbara in Florida a couple of years ago. I’ll miss you Uncle John, so many awesome memories!!!

What a smile! This is how we remember John. No matter how much he was in pain, he could always smile and tell you a very interesting story.
Socially, we much enjoyed a 16 day tour of Germanny jwith John and Barbara.
Professionally, John was a very intricate and well versed authority on trees and as Mayor of the town, we called on him frequently for his professional advice.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.

y thoughts and prayers go out to the Northwood family, friends and anyone who has ever met John Northwood. I know he nurtured my love of nature (hiking), and tree’s. I will miss him greatly. Throughout my life, when I have had conversations with him he gave me his undivided attention which made me feel very special and important to him.
Then of course there were all the practical jokes and his humor!!! I remember us kids picking raspberries. We collected and ate a lot them. Then a worm popped out just as someone was about to eat one. We screamed and put them in the frig. That didn’t bother Uncle John he just ate them worms and raspberry’s alike!!! I wish I could have been there when Aunt Renny though that Uncle John ate the bug.
I remember his laugh when his sister tried to get into the canoe had on a heavy wool sweater and when she didn’t get in the canoe the right way it tipped over. When she stood up she was holding a bag full of cherry’s in one hand and I think a bag of veggies in the other. Her hat was plaster around her face and the sweater stretched out past her knees I am glad she was not hurt.!! Now I have that sweater which reminds me of my mom, Uncle John and my Aunt Margaret who knit the sweater precious memories. I also remember when John Hoogie caught the Muskie, Uncle John was so excited for him you would have thought that he caught the fish. He let out a loud whoop that was heard a long ways away!!!
I could go on and on!!! All these wonderful memories I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Sending lots and lots of love to everyone,

Harvey and I send our deepest sympathy to Barbara, Sandra, David, Kim & Heidi. I recall my first job planting “fishing poles” after pruning. Brother Bob & I enjoyed the friendship and laughter. Few of the trees remain as sweet reminders. Also the beautiful voice in the choir.
