We will always remember the fun times we had at the cottage and camping with John.
Steve and John were like teenagers together Laughing joking playing pranks and talking each night. When l married Steve l got John too.
John was so good to our boys Peter and Mark. He was an uncle to them and he always made them laugh.

John had a kind and big heart. I remember him telling me he dropped off a teddy bear to a child in the hospital after reading in the paper that he had been burned.
He was our family and we will miss him.
I know in my heart he is at peace now.
Love and hugs to Lisa Amy Katie And Aaron

John was a daily regular at my workplace (Tims). He was always up for a friendly chat in the drive thru or he’d even call sometimes. We will miss seeing him every day.

My sincere condolences to his son, and the entire family.

We are really sorry to hear about your loss. John has been a friend of the family for so many years, from his friendship with Peter, sharing the house with Brian, and his theatre antics and working with Mark and Jill. His wacky sense of humour and that crazy laugh are things we will always remember about him. He will certainly be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing. I have known him since was a teenager. He was one of my Brother Steve’s closest friends. I always enjoyed seeing him when he came to our office. I always knew who was in my brother’s office, or who Steve was on the phone with, because of the laughter that rang thru the office, when the two of them engaged in conversation. I last saw John at my nephew Peter’s wedding. I am so glad he was there and I will cherish that memory. I know my Nephews Peter and Mark loved and had great admiration for John; he was like an Uncle to them! John was a part of the Davey family; we all loved him and are devastated by his passing. My sincerest condolences to Amy, Katie, Lisa and Aaron

Our sincerest condolences. John was a part of both of our lives for over 35 years. I have fond memories of sharing the workspace at Richvale that grew into a lifetime of friendship. He was an important part of our group from playing cards to birthdays to cottage weekends. His infectious laugh and his unique humour will be sadly missed. John will always be in our hearts. Be at peace John.

Amy, Aaron, Katie and Lisa. I am so sorry for your loss.
I wanted to share with you how a summer job lifeguarding at the Town of Richmond Hill’s Richvale Community Centre in 1978 resulted in me meeting this special man, and the beginning of a friendship that developed quickly.
John was 21 and I was 17, but even though we were 4 years apart, our mutual love of the Beatles, John Lennon, socializing with friends and so on allowed us to bond deeply. Our birthdays are only a day apart, so mutual celebratory parties soon became a tradition.
John’s genuinely friendly and outgoing nature made him fun to be around and so that summer at the pool with him and the other pool staff became magical. It was full of laughs, parties, and trips to the Watts’ brother’s family cottage in Algonquin Park.
A couple of years later, circumstances arose, that lead to John and I becoming roommates for two years. They were such fun times. Evenings watching his favourite TV show MASH and nights playing video games, poker, Risk etc. For money of course, as John loved a friendly wager.
When it came time to marry my dear wife Colleen, John was a logical choice for best man. When he married dear Cathy a few years later, I was honoured to be his best man.
John was so honoured that Lisa, Amy and Katie, came to think of him as their dad. He was so thrilled when Aaron came along, as he always wanted a son.
John and Cathy’s loved the outdoors, as did Colleen and I. So. when our children were old enough, we started an annual tradition of camping as families. This went on for many years, and left us with treasured memories, of Algonquin and Arrowhead Parks.
Around the same time, my parents bought a cottage and were insistent that “The Bauer’s” were welcome there anytime. This resulted in even more memories being established. Watersports in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.
Throughout our whole 43-year friendship, John always impressed me with his tremendous work ethic and ability to work under difficult situations.
I was so proud of him, when he quit the school board and went full time on his own after founding JMB Maintenance. As one of his clients, I can personally attest to the high cleaning standards he strove to maintain, while charging his clients a reasonable fee.
It is a testament to anyone who can create a business and grow it into a successful venture. Both my sons worked for him part time when they were teenagers. They often told of the fun pranks Uncle John would pull on them. All in good fun.
Johns sense of humour was great and his laughter unmistakable. I will miss them most of all, I think.
John and I shared a lifetime of fun, friendship and family and I wished that that it could have continued forever. I miss you John, you will always be part of my life and hope you are now at peace my friend.

I was so sorry to hear about John. He had been a part of my life through my son, Steve, especially in recent years. He often came to our office, to clean or just to visit, and I always got a hug. He and Steve would play jokes on each other, just as they had 40 years earlier. I will never forget John and will always miss him.

Knew John when he and Steve Davey were roommates. Many a late night playing Risk, Monopoly and watching movies. The 3 of us had Birthdays close too. April was always special. Rest now John.

I had the privilege of being John’s godson and growing up with Uncle John, Aunt Kathy and Aaron.

John was the kindest and hardest working man and would always cheer-up anyone he talked to. Quick to joke, laugh and listen, John’s passing leaves a tremendous emptiness in our lives that will never be filled.

However, he also leaves a lifetime of happy memories created from evenings around the campfire, up at the cottage playing RISK and poker, snowmobiling adventures and of course, cleaning post offices on Friday nights.

I know that John’s pain is over and he can finally rest. He will live on in the memories and stories of all those whose lives he touched. Rest in peace Godfather.

Rest In Peace my friend, we had many good debates and agreed on lots of issues this strange word thru at us. I remember the day John and Kathy came over to our house the day after my father visited, he had mentioned a few weeks prior that they couldn’t sleep at the trailer due to all his neighbours partying all hours of the night, he asked who the man was that was over because my dad trailer back on to theirs. The party animals were my father and his buddies. We had a great laugh what a small world. We give our extreme condolences to Aaron and his extended family. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with all of you during the services.

Both John and Kathy were dear friends of ours up at Layzee Acres. We had many a campfire with them and always enjoyed their company. They were both very kind and would always walk down to say goodbye at the end of a weekend. They were both very proud of their children and grandchildren. They were taken way too soon. We are sending our sincere condolences to their family. May your beloved parents rest in eternal peace together. Xo

My Dad John was one of a kind. His sense of humour was like no other and his work ethic will forever be instilled in me. I’ll always remember the good times we shared and will never forget his unique cackle of a laugh. His hate for cats and dog hair always amused me, considering I’d catch him loving up on my animals when he thought nobody was watching. Forever in my heart, and now with his true love, my Mom… RIP Dad
