Giuseppe Basso

In Memorial

Basso Giuseppe 1

Basso: Giuseppe,

Suddenly at Stevenson Memorial Hospital Alliston, surrounded with the love of his family, on October 5, 2021. “Bepi” Basso in his 77th year, beloved husband of Josephine Basso (nee: Viscardi). Loving father of Steven (Amy), Peter (Andrea), and Ivonne (Michael). Loved Nonno of Michael, Monica, Megan, Justin, Devin, and Cailey. Dear brother of Bruna Martello (Silvano). Sadly missed by his sisters in-law Clara Viscardi (Steven Lumley), Susan Bashford (Bernard), and his brother in-law Robert Viscardi (Sharon). Forever in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The Family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477, on Friday October 8, 2021 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Church Colgan on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 2:30pm. Followed by cremation. For those who wish donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Bepi was an avid outdoorsman who loved to be out hunting and fishing. He was a teacher in those fields. Whether they were the right teachings or the wrong teachings, he passed his love and knowledge to his 2 sons and his grandson, who all love the outdoors. When he wasn’t outside he was inside helping mom make pizzas and pastas. Every Sunday the kitchen and dining room table were full of fresh pizza and pasta. There is nothing like a fathers love, and he had lots of that. He was always willing to help. From helping his daughter opening and closing the pool, to making gardens, tending to flowers, cutting grass, or just as a chauffeur; he was always there for all of us.

A devoted husband who could give mom a hard time, he loved her more than anything. In their 49th year of marriage, no matter what, mom was his everything. He always said “Your poor mom. LOL.” He is going to be terribly missed. As a lot of us know him as “Moose Godfather”. Rest in Peace. We Love you Dad.

Today we are thinking of the Basso/Viscardi families, reminded of being included in family get-togethers and for Christmas Day and Father’s Day celebrations. Bepi was always there, with a smile, a kiss on both cheeks and a hug.
Herb so appreciated Bepi including him in the annual Moose Hunt trip, there was great camaraderie within the entire group.
Bepi will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him. We don’t have any grappa in the house, but this afternoon we will raise a glass of limoncello as a toast to a good and kind man.

We were so sad to here of Joe’s passing. He was a lovely, generous man, who along with Josie, would welcome us into their beautiful home whenever we came to visit my brother next door. I also fondly recall pleasant chats on the deck over a glass (or two or three)of excellent wine that Joe had wanted us to sample.
He was also a good neighbour to my brother, Martin, and to my dear mother, Edith, who passed away three years ago. He will be very much missed.

They say that good neighbours are a blessing. Sadly, we just lost one of the best – Giuseppe “Joe” Basso. My condolences to the immediate family including his wife Josie, his daughter Ivonne (Michael) and sons Steven (Amy) and Peter (Andrea) and to all who came to know and love this wonderful man who was never reticent to lend a helping hand, spin an amusing yarn or to explain the finer points of controlled hunting. There’ll be an aching void in the neighbourhood for some time with his passing.

Mama B, Steven, Peter, Ive and families. My heart is shattered hearing the news about our sweet Bepi. His smile made me blush, his accent made everything sound adorable. He was totally game when I wanted to give him a hug, and then, of course, there was his laugh. I will truly miss him, and I am happy I knew him. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask. Xo
