Elizabeth Margaret Smits

In Memorial

SMITS, Elizabeth Margaret (née Mole)

It is with deep sorrow that our family mourns the loss of Elizabeth Smits, who died peacefully at Bethell Hospice on May 3, 2018. She was a loving wife to her husband, Jack, proud and loving mother to Michael (Maxine), Cheryl (David), and Karen (John), and devoted grandmother to Kiara, Adam, William, Jessica, and Jack,

Elizabeth was born on March 4, 1954, in Weston, ON, and spent her childhood in Montreal with her parents (the late John and Marion Mole), sister Carolyn, and brother Charles. As the daughter of an Air Canada engineer, she traveled often on holidays with her family. She studied applied arts in Montreal, and later worked as a designer at several engineering and architectural firms where she met Jack. She took several years off so that she could be with her three children in their formative years. When her children had left home, she devoted time to her passion for fine arts and created many beautiful landscapes and animal portraits on canvas. Elizabeth loved playing piano and dancing. She loved animals, especially her Himalayan cat, Shadow. Elizabeth saw beauty all around her, trying to recreate it or be a part of it. She enjoyed walks with friends, traveling, and spending the winters with Jack at their home in Florida.

Though she was a quiet person, Elizabeth easily made friends for life. Her beauty and gentle soul touched many people. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

A private family burial service will be held at Morningside Cemetery in Palgrave, ON. Friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of Elizabeth’s life, on May 21 at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club (125 Nobleton Lakes Drive, Nobleton, ON) at 2 – 5 pm.  Donations in memory of Elizabeth Smits to the Bethell Hospice Foundation in Inglewood, ON, would be appreciated. www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com
