Elsie Strachan

In Memorial

Strachan ElsieStrachan: Elsie,
Passed away peacefully on Monday September 9, 2024 at Simcoe Manor, Beeton, Ontario at the age of 97. Elsie dedicated her life to her family and the Beeton Community. She is predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Strachan and 5 sisters and 1 brother. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Connie (Terry) and Paula and Grandson William (Tabitha) and Great-Grand-daughter Kenzie. She touched the lives of her many nieces and nephews, Simcoe Manor staff and friends. She will be fondly remembered by Joan McCullough.

Elsie was very active throughout her life. She pitched in the Beeton Women’s Baseball League, lawn bowled and was a skip for the Beeton curling club. She was an originator of Meals on Wheels in Beeton. Elsie and Bill were Anglican Church members who participated in and fundraised throughout the years for the church. She was also a member of the Anglican Women’s Guild and served many local Rotarians their suppers. Elsie supported the Beeton Fire Department as her husband Bill was Fire Chief for many years.

Elsie and Bill loved to dance, especially the jitterbug. They hosted their friends and family and even their children’s friends with an open door policy. They also skated together into their 80’s and played many card games. Elsie even belonged to a Card group until 90 years of age. Elsie was a loving Mother to her two daughters, Connie and Paula and a loving Grand-mother to Billy and Great-grand-mother to Kenzie. She supported their various endeavours and gave moral support when needed.

Elsie was a working woman. When first married she was a bookkeeper for Ruthven’s Auto Parts in Alliston and then worked for Strachan Motors as a bookkeeper, gas pumper and jack of all trades. She was still able to run a household and be a mother.

A family graveside burial service was held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 9:30am at Trinity United Cemetery, Beeton. Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com. If so desired, donations in Elsie’s memory may be made to Simcoe Manor.

So sorry for your loss. I sure
missed her. She was like my Mom. I always took care of her. She thought I was her daughter at one time. Then I went off for surgery and she missed me soo much that when I returned to work, she did not like me anymore. But I guess with time she was hurt I left. Condolences to the family. Dear Connie and Paula, I was so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. I have very fond memories of both your mom and dad at the euchre party they hosted. The euchre recess lessons…only three …to learn how to play euchre so I could attend the party. I never did catch on, but lucky me to have your mom at my table because she would lean over and show me which card to play! I will never forget that. She made me feel so welcome and at ease. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and I hope the memories of your wonderful mom bring you comfort. She was a gem!

Connie and Paula….so sorry for the loss of your mom….she was a lovely lady. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with your family: our dads working in the garage or gone fishing, sleepovers at your house, a weekend at the cottage, your mom’s buttertarts, Splash, your visit to P.E.I. with us, dinner at your house (who else would invite a family with six kids to dinner?)….and many more memories. The thought of your mom and dad doing the jitterbug makes me smile….wish I had seen that.
