Ethel made us feel so welcome when we came to Rich Hill UC. The boys participated gladly in Explorers, which was started as a girls’ group, but Ethel thought that boys should be included, and so they were. Her easy laugh and generous nature was a great inspiration. I will miss her.

My condolences to the Hitchman family. I remember that Mr. and Mrs. Hitchman opened up their basement rec room to teenagers for a dance on Saturdays. I’m sure listening to the Beatles blaring was not as pleasant for them as it was for us. Mrs. Hitchman also made my wedding cake and it was stunning. Everyone was blessed by her loving nature. God Bless

Ethel was a lovely lady with a life well lived. Her community was wide and is saddened by her going. Such a busy, hard worker. Whether leading youth groups, singing in the choir, catering dinners or just taking time to encourage a friend she did it all with honesty, integrity and humour. Ethel will be remembered by all whose lives she touched and sadly missed by family and friends
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of her family.

My fist encounter with Ethel was working with her at Cedar Glen. Her love of ‘fun’ made the work environment a joy to be in. Our friendship then continued with our Church families…. She was a ‘lover of life’ a ‘hard worker’ and an ‘honest and fair person’. She was an inspiration and my life was blessed with knowing her….and…. Look out Heaven, Ethel has arrived!

Ethel was a wonderful lady, and always made my family and me feel so welcome. My father grew up in the Rich Hill community and loved to get back to his old stomping grounds, including to the Rich Hill United Church special dinners held in the basement. I can picture Ethel with a big smile on her face, wearing her apron and working hard in the kitchen at those special “do”s. Rest in peace, Ethel, knowing that you have a lot of friends who will miss you.

In 1979,after My Mom had died, Dad and Ethel collided outside of the Post Office.Ethel apologized and said she was in such a hurry because she had jars on the stove, boiling for canning. Dad said, that was one of the things he missed, with Mom gone. Ethel told Dad to bring over 6 jars and she would fill them. Dad came home with 12! That is just one small memory of Ethel’s unceasing generosity. She treated everyone as though they was special but in reality she was the special one! Love always

What a fantastic lady and quite a card with an infectious laugh and a twinkle in her eye. Great friend of Mom. Alice and my first real experience with Ethel & Albert was at the Rich Hill public school where they held dance classes. We were courting at that time so in excess of 50 years ago. Our condolences to Bob, Barb, Shirley and families. They broke the mold after Ethel came along.
