Fernando Spalvieri

In Memorial

Spalvieri Fernando

Spalvieri: Fernando,

Fernando Spalvieri died peacefully at home in Schomberg surrounded by family on Monday February 28, 2022 at 85 years old.

Fernando was born in Isola del Liri, Italy in 1936 to Attilio and Filomena. He was the fourth of seven children, and is survived by his brothers Giuseppe (Pierina) and Paolo (Annunziata), and sisters Maria (Vincenzo Tersigni) and Angela (Dario Gemmiti). He is predeceased by brothers Angelo and Giovanni (late Restituta).

Fernando bravely moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1957, not even knowing English, and began working in a lumber yard. Six years later, during a visit to Italy, he met Luisa. It was love at first sight. Within six weeks they were married and came to Canada to build their life together. In 1968 Fernando and Luisa left the city, deciding to raise their family on a farm in Schomberg, Ontario. Fernando leaves behind Luisa, his best friend and wife of 59 years. He will be sorely missed by his children Domenic (Maria), Carlo (Mary), and Patricia (Kristian Nielsen). Fernando was a loving Nonno to his grandchildren Cristina (Scott Monaghan), Alessia, Eric, Alex, Andrew, and Sara, as well as Bisnonno to his great-grandson, Lucio.

While working with CN Rail, at the age of 58, Fernando was diagnosed with Leukemia and given an initial prognosis of six months to two years to live. Fernando immediately took early retirement, and with Luisa’s care, his dedication to a healthy lifestyle, and the amazing Stronach Regional Cancer Centre team at Southlake, especially Dr. Peter Anglin, Fernando beat all odds, surviving 27 years with the disease, always grateful for every extra day he was given to spend with the people he loved.

He enjoyed family gatherings, and will be remembered for his easy-going nature, good advice, generosity, and life lessons.

Relatives and friends are welcomed at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477 on Thursday March 3, 2022 from 5-8 pm, and on Friday March 4, 2022 from 10 am until noon. The Funeral Service, open to all, will be held in the Chapel at Rod Abrams Funeral Home at 12 noon immediately following visitation. A private family entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

For those who wish, donations are welcome to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake in Fernando’s memory.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

Luisa and family, our sincerest condolences in the loss of Fernando. Wonderful man, truly loved by all. It was truly a miracle that he was granted so many more years to spend with his loving family and friends. I only found out today of his passing so was not able to be at the funeral. Memories of him will always be in your hearts. Fernando was so fortunate to have been around to meet his great grandson. What a wonderful joy for both of them.

I remember Fernando as a humble man, loving man, hard working. He loved to hear music, especially the accordion. He had a bashful smile and a contagious giggle. A very loving and honorable man that will truly be missed, rest in peace Fernando.

I wish much comfort and condolences to the entire family.

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose LOVE shows us the way.”

    To all the Spalvieri families:

When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind because life isn’t forever…Love is.

May looking back on your treasured memories help to comfort you in the days and months ahead as you heal and begin anew.

    Our deepest condolences,
    Tony, Jacqueline, and Leighton

    Dear Patricia and family Spalvieri,
My deepest condolences to everyone who is mourning this great loss to your family head.
My church family prayed for Mr. Spalvieri‘s return home from the hospital nightmare. We hoped that he would have stabilized and stayed longer but I’m very pleased that he was at home vs the hospital for his last moment. Stay strong family Spalvieri. God bless you and keep you all. – Esther

We were very sorry to read of Fred’s passing. We send our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the entire family. It was nice to have the Spalvieri families as neighbours when Dad and Mom (Gordon and Florrie) were farming and raising Jim and I. Regrettably, we will not be able to attend the visitation due to my health situation, however, please know that we are thinking of you at this sad time.
