Iola, daughter of William and Minnie Watson, was born in Woodbridge in 1911. She had an older brother Mervyn and a younger brother Bartley.
After the death of her mother in 1914, her father and his sister moved with the young family to a farm on the 2nd Line of Tecumseth, east of Tottenham Road. They attended Rich Hill Church, as well as public school and later continued their education in Tottenham. After leaving the farm they moved to Tottenham.
Iola and William Campbell were married in 1938. Iola became a member of Fraser Presbyterian Church at that time. Iola and her husband William followed the family tradition and were faithful members of Fraser Church. William was church treasurer for many years and an active elder. Iola was always involved in the work of the church and was a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She visited and sent cards to all those who were ill. William and Iola owned Campbell’s Drug Store in Tottenham, and lived in the apartment above the store. William died in 1968, just one year after they had moved in to their new home on Rodcliff Road. Iola and William had one daughter Joan, who married John Nixon of Brampton in 1967. They have two daughters: Julie and Jennifer, and three grandchildren: Madison, Mikayla, and Benjamin. Iola was a devoted Grandmother who had a close and loving relationship with her granddaughters and great grandchildren. She did volunteer work for the Cancer Society, the Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels. She loved a good game of bridge and formed many long lasting friendship with members of her bridge club.
I think we will remember Iola as a “People Person”, cheerful and optimistic who accepted life’s disappointments with courage and enjoyed life one day at a time.
