Jason Cuddy

In Memorial

Cuddy JasonIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Jason “Jay” Robert Cuddy. A cherished son, brother, uncle and friend, Jay left us on Oct 13th 2023 as a result of a hospital-acquired blood infection. He was 36. Jay was born in Toronto, Ontario. He grew up in Tottenham and resided in Ottawa, a place he made his home for the last 18 years.

Jason Robert Cuddy, is survived by his parents Kathi and Mike, his sister Leah, his brothers Kevin (Courtney), and Brian (Caitlyn), his girlfriend Shania, niece Amelia-Jean (Kevin and Courtney), nephews Lucas (Kevin and Courtney) and Jude (Brian and Caitlyn), many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and Grandma Irene Webster. A special thank you to Uncle Dave and Aunt Elizabeth for their devotion, love and care, especially in the last few months. Jay loved you both dearly and was greatly comforted by your presence.

Jay grew up a happy go-lucky child. He was a lover of the arts (graffiti, painting) and sports. He participated in many, including skateboarding, snowboarding, hockey and football. As an adult, Jay was often found on the sofa watching sports (it didn’t matter which one) with a cold PBR in hand. Jay loved his job and the people he worked with and had a wonderful group of close friends that he unwaveringly supported. We know you all share our grief. His love for his family was prominently displayed through his largest tattoo – “Family”.

We’re heartbroken to realize there will be no more Jay-organized shinny hockey games on the 2-line pond.

Jay’s sense of humour was unparalleled. His wit was as quick as any and every gathering was punctuated by Jay’s humour. He’d likely find humour in the date of his passing – Friday the 13th.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for all your love and support during this difficult time. A private family invitation-only memorial service will be held. A celebration of Jay’s life will be held in Ottawa at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or donations, hug your kids (or anyone else you love).

Twenty-five years of knowing Jason seems at once a long time, and not nearly long enough.

When younger, we spent our best times together energetically; snowboarding, skateboarding, driveway hockey, raucous concerts.
Jay brought positivity, cooperation, and style to these activities.

Once grown, we spent our time together more passively; watching hockey games, sharing a drink on a patio, quietly enjoying a campfire. Jay brought confidence, intelligence, and a true sense of companionship to these occasions.

Hearing a wisecrack from Jay and turning to see his sly smile always brought on a smile of my own. To not share anymore smiles with Jay is a great loss.

My love, sympathy, and support to the Cuddy family and all the friends.

RIP JC – 2 Line Forever

We are very sorry for your loss. As we have heard through Kevin and Courtney, Jay was a kind, witty, ‘scary-movie-loving’, wonderful and genuine person. All that and a TML fan too. His passing clearly is a great loss to all who knew him. May you find some comfort in your memories of a wonderful son and brother. Hold each other close at this difficult time. Sending our love, thoughts and prayers.

    Mike, Kathi and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this inexplicably sad time.
Although I never knew Jay, it seems as though he’s left you all with many wonderful memories, much laughter, and love.
They say time heals all wounds… it doesn’t. But it does allow for the wonderful memories to very gradually fill the void.

Sending lots of strength and prayers your way,
    Maria.

Growing up, I drew a lot of parallels between the Cuddy family and ours. We had the same number of children, in the same grades, same classes. We rode the bus together for years.

It literally makes my heart hurt to think of Jay’s passing.

    I am so sorry.

There will always be a part of my heart, throughout my life, devoted to Jason. The love, support and friendship that Jason gave me when I needed him the most in my life was unfathomable and I’ll always remember the kind, strong and blunt words he would give me. When my brother passed away, Jason was there for me and continued to be another brother in my life. He taught me to work hard, to strive for greatness and to love eachother fondly and with kindness. He had amazing friends and was the core to many of those friendships.

I will forever miss you Jason and I love you and your family deeply.

May your light shine on through us.

As I’ve tried writing this over and over I’ve realized there is simply no “perfect” way to write this.
As Jays younger cousin from out West, I will always remember most how he would always treat me like one of his brothers each and every time I saw him from teaching me to skateboard or catching frogs at the Cuddy home. Even when he first met my now Wife, he always treated everyone with the utmost respect and love.
As mentioned perfectly, his wit and humour always made his mark on the moments and memories I, along with many others, will forever cherish.
Hugs and love to all the Cuddy’s, extended family and his friends.

    Love,
    Mike & Brianna

I just wanted to offer my heartfelt condolences to Jason’s family. When I interviewed him all those years ago I knew right away that he would be a good fit with the team at Goodbye Graffiti. I did not know however how important he would eventually be to our organization. He was extraordinary all the time. We have lost a great teammate and more importantly a friend.
