Maltby: Joseph “Joe” Edward,
Passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, in the house that he built for his family over 60 years ago. Beloved husband of Bernice ‘Marie’ (nee: Doran). Loving father of Marianne, Greg (Anne), Raymond, Edward (Liana), Michele (Howard Versteeg) and Joseph. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Rosalind, Madelaine, Ashleigh, Matthew (Brianne), Grant, Jillian, Sara, Hannah, Lauren, Jacob and Emily. Beloved Great Grandfather to Scarlett and Leif. Dear brother of Marg, Betty (the late Don Palmer), and brother in law of Catherine Brand (Bob), the late Anne Gilmore and the late David Doran. Joe will be missed by his extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nishikawa, the P.S.Ws, and Matthews House Hospice. If desired, donations in memory of Joe can be made to Our Town Food Bank or Matthews House Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham 905-936-3477 on Friday April 28, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 29, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Church Colgan. Cremation to follow.

I remember great games of cards around the huge table Joe made in the kitchen. There was lots of laughter & great tasty meals too! I remember ‘Bumper’ had to have his own deck of cards or he’d steal any card on the table! I remember hanging wallpaper with Marie in the kitchen. There was wee bunches of red cherries that sure looked good on the roll of wallpaper! Joe came home & almost went cross-eyed! The paper came down! I remember the pain in Joe’s eyes from his accident injuries as a young man with a damaged spine that surgery couldn’t repair. The door was always open at Maltby’s and no one was turned away. Rest in peace Joe.

Dearest MARIE and the Maltby clan. We were your neighbours for over 40 years. Through thick and thin, sickness and health, growing our families and having one heck of a ride doing it. Joe was not only the guy next door, but also our handyman. He could do ANYTHING. You Mentored your family as well as ours on how to DIY everything. No job too big. Even getting birds and squirrels out of the house. We new this day was coming but you cannot prepare for the terrible loss we feel for your family and ours.
