Leonard “Leo” John Zalewski

In Memorial


After a long battle with cancer, Leo passed away at home on August 13th. Leo is survived by his wife Pat of 24 years, his daughter Ashlyn, step-children Clarkson (Stephanie) and Cathy-Jo, and grandchildren Madelyn and Nora. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Helena and three brothers Wally, Henry, and Richard, Leo is mourned by his remaining sisters Dinah, Maria (Allen), And Christina (Don) along with his many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Beeton, Leo worked for 30 years for the town of New Tecumseth for the Parks and Rec department. He was an avid outdoorsman with a deep love for hunting and fishing. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank all of those who helped care for him as he fought his battle. A special thank you to his buddy Ron, home-care nurse Mary-Jo, and the staff at Rod Abrams Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Leo’s Life will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477, on Sunday September 15, 2024 from 2pm-4pm. The family is requesting that any donations be made to Southlake Hospital – Stronach Cancer Center in lieu of flowers. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

    Dieter was truly a great Principal to work with at Adjala Public School but, even more so he was a very kind, friendly and caring gentleman. It was a pleasure and an honour to have known him.

    Many fond memories growing up on the 9th line where all the kids, regardless of age hung out together. Zalewskis, Archibalds, Sages, Wagners and Rutherfords.

    Leo was a Great guy. My brother Ted and I knew Leo from the rink in the early years. Later it turned into the odd pint at the Muddy. Stand up guy. You will missed Brother.

    RIP Leo—sure miss our annual fall deer hunting days with you and our gang. You were a well respected member of the Beeton community and in the end that is something we should all wish for.

    I was saddened to hear of Leo’s passing. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends. Leo played a part in my childhood years and I will always cherish those memories. Rest well my friend

    My son was friends with Richie and I became of his older brother and then when Leo worked for the town I would see him all the time always a nice guy always had a good word and said hello he was kind of a beating fixture he surely will be missed
