Luitgard Mayer

In Memorial

MAYER, LuitgardIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Luitgard Mayer on September 3, 2024. Luitgard grew up in Bavaria, Germany during the war and immigrated to Canada in 1956, settling in the Hockley Valley in 1961. She is predeceased by her husband Martin and her first daughter Irene, and is survived by her other five children Joe, Mike, Helene, Martin (Louise) and Irm (Sal). She leaves behind nine grandchildren Joseph (Jessica), David, Emily, Amy (Nick), Viki (Jon), Steven, Christina, Andreas and Marcus. As well as her great grandchildren Jackson and baby Ogrodnik.

Luitgard was an integral part of Mayer Tooling, the family business, where she worked hard over the decades both in the office and running production on the shop floor, stubbornly working even into her 94th year! She was very proud of her children, and her grandchildren. She possessed a friendly power with her accepting nature and her welcoming smile. She was an inspiration with her positive outlook on life, unbelievable energy and endless warmth.

The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477 on Monday September 9, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. A Mass of Catholic Faith will be held at St. James Church Colgan, 2118 Adjala Tecumseth Townline, Colgan on Tuesday September 10, 2024 at 10:30am, with interment in St. James Cemetery, Colgan. Reception to follow at the St. James Colgan Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Covenant House, a youth support charity close to her heart. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.

    Translation:

In our thoughts we were very close to you today and were able to accompany your dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but also my best and closest friend (for more than 90 years) and godmother on their final journey on earth. The loss is certainly very painful, but you had a wonderful mother and all the good memories cannot be taken away. That means she will always be with you.
Dear Luitgard, with your always friendly smile, your always good mood, endless confidence, positive attitude to life and your inexhaustible energy, you were always something very special to us. Your visits to the Allgäu were always a highlight for us and during our funny chats via WhatsApp we were able to chat for a long time about old times and reminisce. How good that felt. We are so grateful for that.
God bless and rest in peace with your loved ones who have gone before you.

Dear Luitgard ( Lou ) I did not get to say ‘good-bye’ before your divine soul passed from this earthly world and on to the next. May you know how honoured I feel to have gotten to know you and your super family. Indeed you wore the loveliest hats, sang beautifully as we shared the hymn books, and were incredibly active living a full life. You looked and acted younger than your age. You will always be fondly remembered. With gratitude and prayers. May you rest in eternal peace and grace. May your beloved family carry on your legacy of love, strength, family devotion.
