Abernethy: Ronald William
July 10, 1935 – May 5, 2025
With heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Ronald William Abernethy at Southlake Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, on May 5, 2025, at the age of 89.
Ronald was the devoted and loving father of Ronald (Kathleen), Lori (Bob) Nosad, and David (Suzanne). His children and grandchildren are eternally grateful to Ronald (Dad and papa) for his love, laughter, support and positive outlook on life that he shared with them. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan, and remained a source of strength and love to his family throughout his life. Cherished grandfather of Katie (Colby), Ron, Logan, Stephen (Amber), and Kiera (Dom), Ronald took immense joy in his role as a grandfather. He will also be dearly missed by his great-grandchildren, Ledger, Sloane, and Maverick, who brought light to his later years.
Ronald will be fondly remembered by his siblings, Gail (Rob) Clarke and David, and lovingly missed by his longtime companion, Nancy (Daisy) Baddeley. Forever remembered in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A private family interment will take place on Saturday May 10, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ronald’s memory to the Princess Margaret Hospital would be deeply appreciated by the family.
Condolences and shared memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

Dear Abernethy family,
Our condolences on the passing of your father Ronald. Our mother Amelia shared the hospital room with your Dad who was clearly surrounded by a family filled with love. We did not get the chance to offer our condolences in person and thank-you for keeping an eye on our Mom when we couldn’t be there, your kindness and compassion was truly appreciated. Mom passed away on May 14th. May Ronald rest in peace and may your family be wrapped in the all the wonderful memories of his life.

Ron will be dearly missed. He was such a joy to have around, and always cared about the wellbeing of others. He was such a wise man, and a light that brought joy to our lives. We will miss his presence, and we know that he is watching over us all.
Barb (Visiting Nurse) says
Dear Lori, Nancy and all of Ron’s family,
Ron was an absolute pleasure and a true gem! I looked forward to my visits with him at his home and he was always so concerned about how we (nurses) were and thought of himself and his health issues last. I know he struggled with his health more lately and my hope now is that he is free of all his burdens. He thought the world of his family and expressed this so often to me. Now he will be watching over you all. He will never be forgotten. He was such a kind, sweet man. Sending my deepest condolences to his whole family. Ron may you rest in peace my friend you have earned it.

Ron, Lori and David, I was saddened to learn of Ron’s passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families. I have very fond memories of being neighbors on Rockport for almost 25 years and having drinks with Ron after work on the back porch or on weekends while Roy and Megan swam in the pool. There were many great times that I have relived since hearing of his passing including the shorter times with Joan..

So sorry to hear of Ron’s passing.
We got to know him and have small chats through Cedar Kitchen breakfasts. Although only small encounters we could see he was a kind and gentle soul.
Eternal rest grant unto him, may he rest in peace.
