William Hall

In Memorial

Bill Hall, passed away peacefully at his home in Tottenham on Sunday February 12,2023, at the age of 94, surrounded by those he cherished. He was the loving husbandof wife Neta to whom he was married to for 58 years; Father to Billy (late Sandy),Norman (Laurie-Anne), Son-in-Law Todd and his doting Daughter and biggest fan, Connie.
Bill worked much of his adult years in the produce department at Loblaws Supermarkets. He kept in touch with many of his former colleagues and was very proud to have worked there. At the tender age of 11, his Father passed and his Mother took the boys on holiday to Shadow Lake. The lure of this Lake draws many to return. He then purchased a cottage on the Lake followed by a Summer Resort he named ‘Shadow Lake Cottages’ (formerly known as ‘Gold Rock’) with his Brother-in-Law, Jimmy, wife Neta, and Daughter Connie in tow. Shadow Lake was the only place in the entire world that Bill ever had any desire to travel to. This was his place of solitude, puttering, fishing and chatting with neighbours who became life-long friends. Bill was a humorous, kind, polite and caring man who touched so many. The well-being of all peoples mattered to him. Family, friends and even mere acquaintances felt that they were always ‘important’ when chatting with Bill. Many, whom he (informally) mentored, referred to him as their “2nd Dad” and his many Nieces and Nephews, loved their “Uncle Bill”. His later new-found roles and titles of Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Poppy were something he could never keep straight when having to recite them, but certainly ever so much, delighted in.
As Bill’s cognitive abilities began to decline, those who knew him best, supported him in caring and unconditional ways. Anyone who could still make connection with him experienced feelings that were magical. Having outlived an ‘artificial’ heart valve by 4 years, one could say he was on borrowed time. Bill never took time for granted (nor did he even take naps!). He will be forever missed by so many.
Special thanks to his Caregivers Martha and Adriana, the PSW’s at St. Elizabeth, Community Care Nurses, First Responders as well as Rod & Laura at Abrams. Their professionalism, patience, empathy, care and kindness, was second to none. As Bill laid down to sleep, be rest assured he would have been “God blessing you all”.
His wishes were private cremation followed by a Celebration of Life (to be further announced). Bill didn’t want “folks to visit him if and when they were sad” (his words). His final resting will be very close to Shadow Lake.
Condolences may be offered at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, Tottenham. Donations to the Alzheimers Society and/or the Heart & Stroke Foundation are appreciated.

William Hall - Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We spent many happy times with Bill and Neta over the years, lots of laughs and meals and of course coffee at Walmart with Bill. He always waited for Dick to change the time on his clock in the SUV when the time changed !!!! He will be missed by many, we lost contact when they moved to their new place, Rest in Peace Bill.

This obituary describes Bill to a T. We got to know Bill quite well in our 10 year residency in Ontario. Had several trips to his beloved Shadow lake and many visits at the household. He had a great sense of humour, great at telling yarns and cared about all around him. Sincere condolences to Neta, Connie and Tood. May you find comfort knowing he is resting peacefully.

My deepest condolences to Neta (Mrs. Hall to me), Connie, Todd and family!
I first meet Halls in the mid 60’s when they purchased the cottage next to ours on Birch Point.
We quickly became friends and I was always made welcome at their cottage. Bill (Mr. Hall to me) was always there to lend a helping hand and enjoyed playing horse shoes. Many nights we went trolling for fish on the lake from one end to the other and usually stopped at Gold Rock for refreshments.
You will always be in my thoughts rest in peace my special friend!

Very sorry for your loss. I was one of the very lucky people that spent time with Uncle Bill at Shadow Lake as a youngster. He was always joking around with me, making me laugh and teaching me tricks to show my friends. He will be missed dearly by many am I sure. RIP

Uncle Bill was such a huge part of my childhood from taking me skating every Saturday with Connie in the winter, to wonderful summers up at the cottage. He taught me how to fish, let me work behind the counter at the resort and even introduced me to my first Big Mac. There were countless Sunday dinners with the six of us and so much laughter whenever we were all together. Aunt Neta, Connie and Todd I know life will never be the same without him, but what I have learned is that our loved ones never really leave us – they are beside us everyday just in a different form- so look for the signs that he will be sending you. I know for sure mom and dad were front and centre to meet him and share a few laughs. Uncle Bill was such a gentle, patient, kind and considerate man and my parents and I loved him very much. My love, thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Bill and all of you.

    Much love
    Josephine

Our hearts and prayers go out to Aunt Neta and family, though time and space got between us seeing each other and following each others lives.

I can certainly say many of most cherished memories involved Uncle Bill and his humour while enjoying my times at Shadow Lake cottages.

He was amazing man, and person, and will always be remembered fondly by me.

It is so hard to write these words, but so necessary for me to say. I loved Bill like a father, because he often gave me the kind of guidance and love that my own father gave. Both Linzi and I were ‘family’ to ‘uncle Bill and Aunt Neta’; first they took me under their care and later embraced Linzi as their own. We spent some of the best and most memorable times of our lives especially at Shadow Lake with all three of you.
Neta, Connie and Todd, I wish we could be there in person to pay tribute to your amazing Dad and Husband and ‘fadder’ – and will do so when I see you again.
Please accept our most sincere condolences across the miles on your great loss until we can be together again.
