Karen Joyce Dow

In Memorial

Image 2Karen Joyce Dow passed away peacefully Saturday April 29, 2023, in her 75th year after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her long-time friend and life partner Geraldine McDonelll (Dec. 10. 2022) and her Son Jeff (April 11, 1985).
Karen was a loving Mother to Jason, daughter-in-law Susan, and cherished Grandma to Alicia and Adam.
Born in Hamilton and raised in Parry Sound, she will be missed by her all of her friends both in the Beeton area and the Toronto (North York) area where she spend many years residing.
Karen was actively involved in various clubs and activities including the Beeton Athletic Association, where she coached hockey and helped out with the annual Car Draws, and the Beeton Curling Club, where she was a member. She enjoyed attending various hockey and baseball games in support of her Grandchildren.
She was an outdoor enthusiast, and loved to fish and travel to scenic areas, especially in the fall. She enjoyed many camping trips with her Grandchildren also and was always keen to go on new adventures with them, wherever that would take her.
Karen had a strong love for dogs and had many furry companions which she cared for and loved dearly over the years. She loved to take her dogs for walks and they were with her wherever she travelled.
It’s now our turn to say “Love you to the moon and back”. Rest in peace Mom/Grandma.

The family would like to thank The Doctors and Nurses at North York General Hospital for the great care that they provided while Mom/Grandma was there. Cremation has taken place and no service will be held as per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Ontario Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I just found out about the passing of Karen and we extend our sincere condolences to the entire family. We met Karen when she became involved with the opposition to the Minto development in the area. I would see Karen periodically riding her motorized wheel chair, with her two four legged companions and often with Geraldine. She always had a smile on her face and willingly would stop to chat, despite the grumblings of her two four legged companions. The entire neighbourhood will miss her pleasant outlook.

I just heard about Karen’s passing. She was in our neighbourhood and we shared the same interest of loving our dogs. I recently saw her when she indicated that she wasn’t well and was waiting for further support.
I am so saddened by her passing and we miss her presence and her furry friends.

I am completely heartbroken upon learning of Karen’s passing. Karen and Dean were a huge part of the York Mills/Leslie neighborhood, always stopping for a friendly chat with the many friends they made over the years. Karen was a true inspiration and I hope she knew how loved and admired she was. Our little corner of the world was a happier and brighter place because of Karen. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. ♥️

Dear Jason, Susan & family. We were all so fortunate to have Karen in our lives and she will be missed tremendously. My fondest memories are the early morning walks we took sharing laughs, family stories and meeting neighbours who would wait for us to have a chat. Karen’s love and pride for her family were well known to all and she could not mention any of you without a big smile on her face. Her loyalty and generosity to those lucky enough to be her friends will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.

    Sending love and condolences.

I met Karen April 1975 when the Dows moved in next door during a snow storm. She taught me Kanasta right away. Her little Tabatha spaniel was her shadow. Jeff and Jason became friends with my three girls Lisa, Gina and Audra. I will always remember what she did for me during the summer of 75 and forever greatful. She was quite the girl.
