It is with great sadness that the family of Sandy Bell share the news of his passing on January 9, 2026, at the age of 75, following four years living with mesothelioma.
Sandy was the beloved husband and best friend of Monica Temmler, and a profoundly devoted and loving father to Kayla Nicholls (Kevin Chappell), Shane Nicholls (Meena Nova), and Michael Bell.

He will remain forever in the hearts of his family, closest friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

To Sandy’s family, so sorry to hear the sad news of his passing. I remember how friendly he was to the customers at IGA in Tottenham Mall. One day he called to tell me I’d won a TV in one of the draws. A few minutes later there he was at the door delivering the TV. Such a nice pleasant man who fitted right in amongst the people of Tottenham. RIP Sandy

Shayne also played hockey with our youngest son so we would often see him. The world was a better place with him in it. May he rest in peace. Sandy was really in his element as a grocer- he was the main reason to shop in Foodland Shelburne. always friendly and asking about how your week was going- genuinely concerned for your well being. Several staff commented over the years how Sandy had helped them and been a good friend. He truly inspired loyalty in his employees. Sandy was well traveled and had good advice, such as, “golf at Kingsbarns!!” Sandy was a scholar and a gentleman.
Thomas David Macham says
One of our first encounters with a hockey team outside the confines of minor hockey was through Sandy Bell at the time with the Caledon Golden Hawks. He took a chance on a five foot nothing and 155 pound soaking wet 17 year old goalie out of little “D” center Creemore. He treated my family with nothing short of respect for the year we spent in Caledon. When our son wrapped up his goalie career in Senior a few years back, I called Sandy up and thanked him for giving Brendan a chance and I called him a “class act” which he truly was. In an industry that is teaming with people that are not exactly “class acts” Sandy stood out like a bright and shining star. Our condolences to Monica and family. Few men are able to make as big a contribution to Junior hockey as Sandy did – adieu my friend.

Here is a caring and heartfelt condolence message you can use or adapt:
⸻
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Sandy Bell. He was truly one of the most selfless people I have ever met, and to me, one of the greatest mentors I’ve had in the hockey world. As a junior coach, he taught me so much not just about the game, but about leadership, humility, and putting people first.
What speaks volumes about who Sandy was is that even the last time I spoke with him, he never once mentioned that he was battling anything of his own. That was Sandy always more concerned with others than himself, quietly strong, and endlessly giving.
His impact on the game (Schomberg Cougars) and on the people he mentored will be felt for generations. I am forever grateful for the lessons he shared and the example he set. My deepest condolences to Monica ,family, friends, and everyone whose life was made better by knowing him. He will never be forgotten.
I am sure you’re eating some good tangerines up there Silver Fox!
