Easy to laughter, genuine listening skills, broad wealth of knowledge, this was Andy. Always willing to help and to share. My affiliation was through work, where he was well respected. I love that he helped his community in so many ways, especially the fair. Rest easy.
Wendy-Sue says
I was so sorry to hear of Andy’s passing and also sorry that I could not get to Andy’s service, due to health reasons.
I worked on the Fairboard executive many, many years ago with Andy and he was as kind, appreciative and respectful back then as he was through to his final day. He never failed to pitch in, help out and always with narry a complaint.
For a man who was not even born in this country, had no relatives, other than a sister in a nursing home in England, he has left quite a legacy of memories, friendships and treasured tales that I hope will never be lost.
Liz, my thoughts are with you and all your family. How wonderful for you to have had such a wonderful husband,step-father and great step-father. How lucky for me to be within his sphere. As a Condo neighbour, Andy happily acknowledged everyone and his ceaseless cheeriness pervaded throughout our halls. On my visits to the MacPhersons, Andy would always say to me” You are always welcome here, Wendy-Sue.” I will cherish that sentiment forever.

I wish more than anything that I could be at home today to celebrate Andy’s extraordinary life in person.
I first met Andy when I became the Schomberg Fair ambassador as a teenager. He very quickly became one of the first real mentors I ever had in life — the grandfather I never had growing up in Canada. Someone I deeply admired and loved.
What Andy gave me was one of the most invaluable gifts a young person can receive: he showed me what it truly means to be a good citizen. He taught me the power of investing time & effort into local community, and showing up for people you care about. And he lived every one of those lessons himself — so generously, with such warmth and love. Andy, just like Liz, had a heart of pure gold. He was the salt of the earth.
Andy became a role model for me for the rest of my life. No matter where I’ve moved in the world — and I’ve lived so many places now — I have always carried him with me. Whenever I’ve moved somewhere new, I would often think: What would Andy get involved in? Where would he try to make a difference? How would he leave his mark here? That reflection on the way I show up in local community, and the action it has led to, has shaped who I am in ways I truly cannot put into words.
He also believed in me in ways I didn’t yet believe in myself. Andy was there to support me as I learned to become a strong and confident public speaker. That encouragement planted a seed that grew into one of the most important life skills I’ve ever developed, one that has shaped my career and continued to open doors for me ever since.
I was only the ambassador for a year, but Andy stayed in my life for 20+ years after that. He didn’t have to. There was no obligation, no requirement — that was simply who he was. He chose to keep showing up & being such a kind supporter in my life.
The ripple of his impact lives on through me, and I know through the lives of so many others.
I’ll love you forever, Andy – I’ll always miss your huge smile, big hugs, and classic dad jokes. You brightened my day whenever I saw you. Schomberg will never be quite the same to me without you.
Sending enormous love and the warmest of hugs to Lizzie & his entire family today. I hope you can find some peace in knowing how deeply, immeasurably loved and respected Andy was — by so many more people than you’ll ever fully know.

I’m very sorry to hear the news of Andy’s passing. I first met Andy 30 plus years ago when I joined the Sunday night bowling league at Skyview Lanes. It was always a pleasure seeing Andy, whether it was at bowling or around Schomberg. He always had a smile and time to talk, offering up a joke or a story. I am fortunate to know him and call him friend. He will be truly missed. My condolences to Liz and his family.

So sad to hear of Andy’s passing, thoughts are with Liz and family. Andy was a stellar volunteer in Schomberg and a wonderful person. Andy and Liz were early supporters of the Schomberg Community Farm, long before it was “open” and continued to be throughout the years. Seeing him in the library when I worked there, walking around the neighbourhood, or at the seniors lunch he was a familiar friendly face. He will be missed.

Liz and family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Andy MacPherson’s passing. I had the privilege of working alongside Andy in Toronto during our time in food inspection with Agriculture Canada and later the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and I will always remember him not only as a dedicated and knowledgeable colleague, but as a true friend.
Andy brought integrity, professionalism, and a steady sense of humour to the work we shared. He had a way of making even the most challenging days easier, and his presence left a lasting impression on everyone who had the chance to work with.

He dedicated over six decades to the Society and I am proud to say that I got to work along side him there for over three of those decades. Always a smile, always a good joke, and always a good friend. You were most definitely one of the good guys, Higgins, and you will truly be missed. I was very sorry to hear of Andy’s passing. Whenever you saw him, he would have a joke to share, with a big grin. His laughter was infectious. Lately, he no longer shared jokes but was still could do an excellent job reading Scripture in the Church service. He and Jack Campbell ran a Youth Program at the Schomberg Public School on Friday nights for 7 years. The kids really enjoyed the various sports and crafts offered. They even took the youth to Cold Creek Conservation Area to the high ropes and Andy participated with the kids way up high. My condolences to Liz and the family.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Andy and offer my condolences to Liz and family. Andy and I met through Schomberg United Church and various related events there. November 11th ceremonies in Schomberg were another point of contract.
Andy always had a joke to share and an offer of help, as much as he could, at church events. He will be missed. Andy and I chatted only a few days before he died. Although he had lost some sparkle in his eyes, he seemed well enough. Shows how tentative life can be.
Blessings Andy. May you now be in the loving care of God.
