I found out of Barb’s passing today as I called Simcoe Manor to wish her a Merry Christmas. I used to do Barb’s physiotherapy with her and I would love visiting her! She was so enthusiastic about doing her exercises and wanting to get back onto her feet. At 91… I’m sure those feet have walked many many miles and needed a rest.
Barb was not only my “resident”, but I would call her a friend. She always told me stories about her life, boasted about her many grandkids and great grandkids, and she was even so sweet to knit my baby a blanket when I was pregnant 🙂 I spoke to Barb last Christmas and wanted to continue the tradition. I’m sorry it’s too late this time and my deepest condolences to the family. It sounded like you were all very close and Barb’s kindness shall live on in generations to come. Xoxo

Baboo was like a second mother to my brothers and myself. I have such fond memories of weekends at Cluffs, Mullins and more recently in Beeton. Her heart was as welcoming as the hug she’d give you. The tributes and love expressed for her are a testament to the type of woman she was … we should all aspire to those traits. She has exhaled the struggles of this life and inhaled peace, joy and love in the arms of Jesus. And now I’m going to go make her sponge cake!

My condolences to the entire Roach family on Barb’s passing. I first met Barb, and many of the Roach family, through Doc and Anne Holmes. My family visited Doc and Anne while they were staying at Barb and Jimmy’s home in Barbados and soon afterward, Barb and Jimmy moved to Canada. I loved Barb’s Bajan accent and am certain that I listen faster as a result of having to keep up with how fast she spoke! I remember her being full of life and laughter and just bringing a bit of sunshine to my day every time I ran into her in and around Beeton. It has been a number of years since I’ve seen Barb, but the thought of her and her being a bit of a representative of the beautiful island of Barbados will always make me smile.

Harvey and I are sorry to learn of Baboo’s passing. I can remember the weekends spent at Cluffs, the famous movie nights, and the “high teas” at Cluffs which meant my Mom would call Baboo two weeks in advance to arrange because after all we had to drive from St. Philip to St. Lucy! Our enjoyable ice fishing weekend on Lake Nippising and Baboo putting together lunch on the last day when supplies were at a minimum she still managed somehow to feed us rotis!!I was convinced that Baboo carried “Bajan Seasoning” in her purse! Baboo was a warm and wonderful lady and will be greatly missed.
    Love to everyone
