Carmelita McKenna

In Memorial

CarmMcKenna

McKenna, Mary Carmelita (June 26, 1924 – December 22, 2014)

Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Ontario. “Carm” was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Austin McKenna, and will be sadly missed by her children: Maureen, Kevin (Marie), Marianne (Bryan Mulhern), Elaine (Timothy Weekes), Cecilia (John Peirce), and George (Kathleen). She is lovingly and joyfully remembered by her thirteen grandchildren: Jodi, Christopher, Katie, Ann Marie (Luke Harris), Sarah (Daniel Hurst), Colleen, Kelly (Ryan Metcalf), Sheila, Ian, George, Mark, Alena, Austin, and great-grandson, Reed Austin. She is survived by her sisters Stella (the late Peter Ross) and Patricia (Bill McCrea), and predeceased by her siblings and their respective spouses: Ignatius Donoghue (Theresa), Clare Chabot (Charles), Gerald Donoghue (Mary), Rosaleen Moran (Ray), and Monica Donoghue.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Briton House, who lovingly assisted Carmelita during the last two years, and the compassionate caregivers from Easy Access Health Care Services who played such an important role in Carm’s care over the past six months.

While Carm “pulled the goalie” a number of times to win the game of life’s challenges over her almost 91 years, it only seemed fitting that she passed away after news of yet another Toronto Maple Leafs’ loss. Carm was their greatest fan.

Resting at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, ON 905-936-3477: Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. James Church, Colgan, ON: Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 am.

Donations in Carm’s memory, in lieu of flowers, to ShareLife (www.sharelife.org, or by C$ cheque to ShareLife, 1155 Yonge St., Toronto, ON M4T 1WT) or the Society of the Little Flower (www.littleflower.org , for US$ donations, or by C$ cheque to 7020 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 7B7) would be appreciated.

We convey our sincerest sympathies to your family at this difficult time of your mother’s death. She was a dear friend to us and we especially remember her helpful nature. Carm was the first to volunteer or offer to help someone in need. She was a very holy woman and was devoted to the adortation of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Francis from the very beginning – over 20 years ago.
There is no doubt she has a front row seat in the heavens above.
Carm , you will be sadly missed,
    love Siobhan and Tom Mockler

We offer our sincere condolences to our McKenna cousins. Carm and Austin were a wonderful chapter in a great book. So many times I (Pat) sat in for festivities and fun after combining, a great hunt, a ride on a ski-do and lots of other excuses. Then there were meet-ups at the Beeton Fair suppers, garden parties, euchres, wedding and more. Carm and Austin never missed a wake or funeral of their neighbours or relatives. And they did have a big collection of neighbours and relatives!
We will miss Carmelita and always have warm memories.

    The McKenna Family,
I got to know your parents well when they volunteered along with me helping out at the Saturday morning Masses at Simcoe Manor. It was a real pleasure being with them. They were always smiling and happy. They brought joy to the residents. Regretfully we will not be able to be with you at this sad time in your lives. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Carm, VIcki and I are so glad that we got to spend some time with you at the Britton House. Although you were not feeling well, you still ma naged to laugh and you had that constant smile. As my Godmother, you always remembered my birthday. I have many fond memories of being around the kitchen table at the farm, with you, Austin and my cousins. Always, after a wonderful hot meal, the board games or a deck of cards were brought out, sometimes a new card trick was introduced. Even after a hard day in the fields, there was always so much laughter and good times around that table, cherished memories. Aunt Carm, your family will miss you , I will too. Rest in peace, Paul

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was like a second mom to me over the years. She always made me feel so welcome when I came to visit.
I especially loved the family chats at your home in Loretto, between lunches and dinners. Her faith, especially, was such an inspiration. Please know my prayers are with you at this time.
