Christopher Ambrose ‘Chris’ Bergin

In Memorial

Bergin1The world became a little quieter on August 27, 2025, as Chris Bergin of Bond Head, Ontario, also known as “Dad,” “Grandpa,” and “CMan,” planted his final tree, moved his last rock, parked his tractor, and took his last journey at age 72. Renowned for his helpful hands, love of the outdoors, and enjoying a glass of Guinness, he filled his family’s lives with laughter, honesty, and love.

Born in 1953 of Irish descent, Chris was raised on his family farm in Colgan and enjoyed a life with his dog, Sparky. Later, moving to Newmarket, he met the love of his life, Debbie, at the age of 18, where they began their journey together, marrying in 1976. It was during these years that he met his lifelong friends: John and Diane, John and Karen, and Frank and MJ.

At the age of 22, he began his electrical apprenticeship and recently celebrated with great pride his 50th anniversary as an electrician with IBEW 353 union.

Chris and Debbie built a home in Bond Head where they raised their three children, Allison, David, and Anne, along with their family dog, Tilley, whom Chris spent many hours walking in the bush. As a proud father, Chris widely shared his children’s accomplishments and will be fondly remembered for teaching them many practical life skills that will live on through their own children.

While being at home was always where Chris wanted to be, during his 49 years of marriage, he traveled all across the world to some places only one could dream of. Spending time in their beloved condo in Naples, Florida, was also a special escape for Chris from Canadian winters.

Chris was well-known throughout the Bond Head community and formed many special friendships, leaving a lasting void. His best buddy, Duncan, will deeply miss their Saturday get-togethers.

Above all, his family, especially his six grandchildren, was his greatest source of pride. He spent countless hours riding bikes, teaching them how to drive his tractors, doing all of the girly things (nails, hair, dolls), taking them to appointments, watching their sports, and spoiling them with love and attention.

A devoted husband to Debbie, a loving father to Allison (Victor), David (Linda), and Anne (Bret), and an exceptional grandfather to Calem, Ronan, Cruz, Bree, Everly, and Serena. Predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Evelyn Bergin, his late brother, Charles (Donna), and their children, Craig and Valerie. Chris had a loving relationship with his in-laws, late Carl and late Ruth Melbourne. Chris will be sorely missed by his sister-in-law, Carol, and her children, Jessica and Sean, as well as many beloved cousins, extended family, and friends.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham (905-936-3477).

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church, 2118 Adjala-Tecumseth Townline, Colgan, on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in St. James Cemetery, Colgan. All are welcome to attend the reception following the interment in St. James Church Hall.

Chris would like everyone to wear casual attire or his favourite colour, green, no suits please.

In Chris’s memory, donations to SickKids Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or offering an act of service to help others are appreciated by the family.

“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Chris would always come into the drug store with his two grandsons and purchase lotto and candy before/after they had their appointment. He was always so happy and bubbly. He always made me laugh. It is with sadness that I hear of his passing. My condolence to the family. He always had a smile on his face.
