It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy Murton Hughes. Cindy, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9th in Newcastle, Ontario, surrounded by the love of her family, following a brief battle with cancer.
Born on October 23, 1958, in London, Ontario, Cindy enjoyed her childhood and teen years in Tottenham, where she formed lifelong memories.
As a young woman, she embraced the excitement of city life, moving to Toronto to experience urban living and to work in the heart of downtown. She later made her home in Oshawa, where she built a life filled with love and companionship with her husband, Jerry Hughes.
Cindy was the cherished daughter of Jim (Norm) Murton and Verna Murton (predeceased). She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Cathy (Pete Eisener) and Christine (David Shorey), and their families.
Throughout her life, Cindy enjoyed a variety of careers at OLG, Buss Marketing, and ultimately found her place in internal broadcasting at General Motors, where she was known for her dedication, creativity, and warm presence.
Cindy will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humour, and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A private family gathering will take place. Donations to Marigold Hospice in Newcastle or your local hospice are welcome.

I worked with her for 5 years at the GM Oshawa Head office, and stayed connected for about 10 years afterwards. She always had a warm smile, kind words and wonderful personality. Cindy and I would go to the school and swing on the swings what seemed like hours we would sing… Those Were The Day’s My Friend and other songs I have many memories but the swings is the one that sticks out.
