Dieter Stadler

In Memorial

Stadler DieterDIETER R.H. STADLER
Our beloved husband, father and Opa peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday June 17th . He is survived by his wife, Wendy, son Ralph and daughter, Petra Huels (Martin) and cherished grandchildren Michael Stadler and Niklas, Noah, Nina and Noelle Huels.

Dieter was born in Freiburg Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1965. He was always grateful for the opportunities Canada afforded him and truly loved his adopted country.
A lifelong sportsman and sports fan, Dieter’s first love was track and field. He excelled as a teenager in the 1500 and in cross country but tennis was not far behind in his sports world. He loved the game and especially loved coaching and developing junior players. He continued to play competitively until his 70s before finally giving up the game at age 80.

A later passion was reserved for a red and black 1965 Austin Healey which he lovingly restored in the early 90s. Once his grandsons were old enough to drive, they too took great delight in driving the Healey whenever they visited.

A private family graveside interment will take place at Schomberg Union Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made in Dieter’s memory to the Sick Kids Foundation or Covenant House.

Online condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

Dear Wendy, Petra and family, my deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, and more. Like others, my friendship with Dieter began many years ago on the Fountainhead Tennis Club courts. Dieter was a terrific player and leader who loved to mentor the younger members of the club. I remember he always had a smile for me and liked joking around. Rest easy Dieter.

Our sinceres condolences on the passing of Dieter to you Wendy and the family. I am Uschi, his last cousin from Germany. My husband Heiner and me had the pleasure of visiting Dieter twice, in 1998 and 2013. During our first visit his first grandson Niklas was born. The second visit took place in 2013. Our staying in Canada was wonderful, we enjoyed it very much and will remember it for ever.
The last years we stayed in touch via WhatsApp.

I had the pleasure and privilege to play tennis with Dieter. He was such a good player and a very fair one. I think we played in the same club in Freibu at one time, a long time ago. I am very sorry not to have talked to him recently and offer my sincere condolences to his family,

I started playing tennis at the age of 75, and it is at that time that I met Dieter. I learned a great deal about tennis from him. Dieter was a pleasure with whom to talk, and it has been an honour to have known him–a true gentleman.

I was very sad to learn of Dieter’s passing. We met at the Fountainhead tennis club back in the late 70’s and had many tennis matches. He won most of the time. He and his family, Rita, Ralph, and Petra became good friends. Dieter and I remained Facebook friends even after he moved out of Toronto and stayed in touch over the years. Rest in peace, Dieter, and condolences to Wendy, and all of his family.
