Tizzard, Dorothy Irene
After a valiant struggle with skin cancer, Dorothy Irene Tizzard (nee Brooks) on Friday August 18th at Simcoe Manor with her daughters at her side. Beloved Mom of Judith Stein, Nelson B.C., and Janice Preiss of Beeton, Ontario. Greatly missed by her son-in-law Richard and grandchildren Alison and Richie Preiss. Predeceased by her husband and life dance partner Gordon. She leaves behind many brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews who will miss her quick wit. As well, many people called her Mom; Mary and Lou of Stroud, Ashish and Colleen of Chicago, and Tasneem and Zulekha of Mississauga. Dorothy was known and loved for her loving heart, quick jokes and always ready for a dance. She opened her home and arms to many Rotary students from other lands and was made a Paul Harris fellow in which she took much pride and honor. Cookies in the cookie jar, a simmering soup and a ready good laugh and dancing feet. She shall be sadly missed by all who know her. With much gratitude, the family wishes to thank the many, many people who gave her care and comfort during her last days, the Simcoe Manor and Village staff, St. Elizabeth home nurses and the many friends and volunteers. A special thank you to Dr. A. Easson, and Dr. W. Wells of Princess Margaret for their caring and compassion. Dorothy’s wish for us that she left is to celebrate her life with laughter and song. So play a little Glen Miller music and know that she and Gord are “Dancing cheek to cheek” and all is at peace.
The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, 905-936-3477 on Sunday, August 20th, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held, in the chapel, 11:00 am Monday, August 21st, 2006 followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation or CNIB.
