George “Bruce” Nelson passed away peacefully at home, on July 25, 2025, surrounded by his family, in his 86th year.
Born July 27th, 1939 in Paisley, Ontario, to the late George and Hildred Nelson, he was the youngest of the 3 boys. Bruce lived a life centered around family and farming. From training horses to trucking cattle, and everything in between, there was no job on the farm too big or small that Bruce couldn’t tackle. His lifestyle kept him busy, and maybe busier when he met Dee and raised their four kids in Beeton.
He was a lifelong harness racing enthusiast. Training and driving for close family/friends for years, he continued to watch the races after he retired from horse racing. Bruce was an avid sports person, whether it be the various sports that he played, cheering on his children during their games, or just watching any sport on tv, he was always involved in some type of sporting event. Bruce was a beloved Partner of 35 years to the late Edith “Dee” Jensen, a loving Father to Sarah (James), George, Emily, & Julia (Sam), and a proud Grampa to Noah & Liam. Bruce was predeceased by his oldest brother, Jim Nelson, and younger sister Florence Nelson. He leaves behind his brother, Doug (Verna) Nelson. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and close friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the Georgian Bay Steam Show, Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society, or Canadian Belgian Horse Association (To make a donation, contact the CBHA office at 905-939-1186), would be appreciated by the family.
The family will receive friends and family at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, Tottenham, Ont., on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 10-11 a.m., immediately followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 11a.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Cliffside Hall. Online condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.
