Gladys Peddle Obituary photo

Peddle: Gladys (Hayward)
Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital on Wednesday February 16, 2022, after courageously living with diabetes and kidney disease for decades. In her 80th year, Gladys joins her husband and best friend Ray, who passed away in 2013. She leaves behind her beloved daughter Charlene and son-in-law Ian who will greatly miss her enduring love and friendship. Gladys will be greatly missed by her dearest son Darren. Grandma will be missed very much by her three grandchildren, Hayden, Zachary and Mackenzie whom she loved immensely. She was predeceased by her brothers Albert Hayward and Cyril Hayward, and is survived by her dear siblings Ethel Abbott, Roy Hayward, Lloyd Hayward (Mary), Phyllis Burnand (Greg), Marlene Abbott (Ted), and sister-in-law Pat Hayward. She had many friends who considered her their “Best Friend”. If you were friends with Gladys, you had a friend for life.

The family would like to thank everyone who reached out and supported Gladys over the past few difficult months, right up to her final days. Gladys lived life to the fullest, always with a ready smile, laughter on her lips and a sparkle in her eye. That is the way she will be remembered always, by everyone who loved her.

The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, 905-936-3477 on Saturday February 19th, 2022 from 12:30 – 3:00pm. A private funeral service will be held in the chapel following the visitation at 3:30 pm. Although COVID-19 restrictions have eased, the family have requested that anyone attending the visitation and/or funeral service be fully vaccinated and all must wear a face mask covering the nose and mouth and maintain social distancing at all times. Interment will take place in the spring. Donations in Gladys’ memory to Tottenham United Church (26 Mill Street, East, Tottenham, L0G 1W0) would be appreciated by the family. www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com

We were surprised and sorry to read this about Gladys. We first met her at Tottenham euchre which of course did not include the last couple of years. This meant missing that gorgeous smile she always wore and her friendly greetings to all. Condolences to the family.

To Glady’s family, especially Darren, Ditty, Charlene, Ian, Hayden, Zachary, Mackenzie & Ethel.
Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. We have fond memories of Gladys. She always had a beautiful smile and a kind word no matter when or where you met her and she was always upbeat. Losing a Mom, grandma and sister is so difficult for you all. May you hold her close to your hearts as you remember her and share your stories with each other. Those stories will bring tears to your eyes but also smiles and even laughter. She will always be a part of you.

Our hearts are broken to lose Gladys.
She was such a wonderful companion and dear friend, we spoke every day the past couple of years and before that we enjoyed countless card games, lunches and dinners out and car rides. We made many memories that I will cherish and she will be remembered with love. Sheila always enjoyed her chats with Gladys and was so grateful that we had each other through our years since Ray and Jim passed away. Our sincere condolences, may you cherish the wonderful memories through these difficult days.

Gladys remembered my father from when he preached in Bonavista in the mid 1950’s and often reminded me about this. She always phoned me on the Monday following the Sundays when I filled in for our minister to thank me and to comment that my father would be proud of me. I will miss that! Mr. and Mrs. Peddle were very important people to us and our children. They were both so welcoming when we moved to Tottenham and were loved as if they were our own parents/grandparents. We extend our deepest condolences and hope that the many memories fill your heart. Gladys’ smile and care will be greatly missed!
