Slezak, Ilona
Ilona Slezak (nee: Szabo), passed peacefully on August 2, 2025 at Kristus Darzs Latvian Home Woodbridge at 87 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Karoly Slezak and lovingly remembered by her children Barbara Slezak, Ildiko “Ildi” Makrai (nee Slezak) (the late Alex), and Tamas “Tom” Slezak (Rita).
She will be greatly missed by her Grandchildren Kristina (Nic), Karl (Katlyn), John, Nicole (James), and Daniel (Hannah). As well as her Great Grandchildren Noah, Lia, Mason, and Brady. Predeceased by her sister Margit Toth. Forever remembered by her extended family and friends.
Ilona was a woman of deep kindness and boundless compassion, whose love for her family and those dear to her knew no limits. Not a single person could enter her home without leaving with a full stomach, she was always prepared to feed an army with her home cooking and fresh pastries. The outdoors brought her serenity; nature was her refuge, where she found peace and joy. Above all, Ilona cherished time spent with her loved ones, creating memories that continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her. These precious moments are now treasured stories carried forward by everyone who had the privilege to share in her life.
Visitation will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, ON, L0G 1W0 905-936-3477 on Thursday August 7th, 2025 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm. Funeral service to follow at 2:00pm in the chapel. Interment to take place at Colborne Cemetery 36756 Saltford Road, Goderich, ON N7A 3Y1 on Wednesday August 13, 2025 at 12:00pm.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Sharing your sadness with the passing of your mother. You cared so well for her Barb. This passing will be bittersweet. You have watched her decline in health and struggled alongside her. And still it will be so hard to let her go. She’s a part of who you are and her absence leaves a gap.
I still remember coming to your house in high school and with her broken English she would warmly welcome us all into the home. There was always fresh goodies to try, which she presented with a huge smile. She was quick with the laugh and good natured.
Praying for God to comfort and strengthen you in the days to come. Hold on to the beautiful memories.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of this beautiful and kind lady. Just two weeks ago Ildi and I shared our memories of her feeding us when we visited Goderich. She never sat down and her food and pastries were so delicious! She will be greatly missed by not only her family, but the others, like myself, who were so fond of her. She will now join her beloved husband in Heaven. REST IN PEACE
