    To the Thorne Family,

Ginette and I send our deepest condolences for the passing of Jim. I’ve known Jim for many years and he was truly a fine person. He always gave you a friendly hello when out and about.

My dad, Jim Stone coached Jimmy in goal and held him in high respect. He once said “That Jimmy Thorne has moxie!” I Never heard him give that compliment to another man before or since.

As a goalie he had to face the shots and life gave him some hard ones. But he faced them all with moxie. He was a true fighter. Rest In Peace Jimmy. John and Ginette

Lori & Christopher- Our thoughts are with you both, so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Jimmy always cared for his family, friends and the community, as a member of the fire dept. Jim was there when someone needed help or in flipping burgers when fund raising. On a personal note I needed help in running a power supply from the house to a new shop in the back yard. Jim was a stickler for doing electrical work by code and when we finished installing the power supply, outlets and the light fixtures. It came time to put the cover on the electrical panel—oops–Jim had wired it upside down, well damn. “It’ll be Ok Jim” I said ” I’ll just hide it by hanging an old hub cap over it, no one will ever know , now we can have beer!”

When I saw his picture I recognized the Thorne family resemblance immediately. We knew the Thornes growing up and at one point my mother was taking care of Jimmy when he was a toddler. When I returned home from school it became a custom for me to play a recording of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture for him. We called it the ‘The Guns’. Though we lost touch I know he made several trips to my parents as they ailed and those were much appreciated. How sad it is to think he is gone. I don’t know how things work in the great beyond but I hope he gets to meet Tchaikovsky and that he will be able to beguile Jimmy with a masterful performance of his Overture complete with the bells and friendly canon fire for which his score called.

Jim you will be sadly missed, it was my pleasure knowing you since public school, being the track star, goaltender, volunteer firefighter, electrician and many more great achievements. You’ve helped and inspired a lot of people with your positive attitude.

    Lori and Christopher,
Please know I am thinking of you both during this ultimately difficult time.
Although I didn’t know Jim personally I do know that Lori and Christopher were both a supportive and loving family unit in which enabled Jim to thrive and live his life to the fullest especially since his heart transplant 12 years ago.
I like to believe Jim now has a “bird’s-eye” view on Lori and Christopher and he is filled with love and gratitude.
    Love,
    Colleen McKerry

Jim was part of our hockey family from when the boys started playing together at age 7. He was always game for team dinners, parties in the hotel party room but what stands out is at every away tournament he would make time so Laura, Kate and Dana could paint his nails whatever colour they picked and wore it proudly all weekend. Lori and Chris, we are thinking about you, he was a wonderful guy. ❤️
