Peacefully passed away at his home in Loretto, with the love of his family by his side on August 25, 2026. John Blacklaws at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of Irene Blacklaws (nee: McIntosh). Loving father of Larry (Lynda), Mike (Christine), Terry, and Karen Grehan (Jamie). Sadly missed by his grandchildren Rebecca, Darren (Heather), Emily (Nick), Craig, Hannah (Jeremy), Kevin (Bita), and great grandson Jack. John is the dear brother of Margaret Bricknell (the late Tom), the late Janet Pickett (Jim), the late David, Heather Ann Adams (Dave), Donal (Christine), and James. Forever remembered in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday August 31, 2026 at 11am in St. Mary’s Church Achill 2458 Concession Rd. #4 Loretto ON, with interment taking place in St. James Cemetery Colgan. A Celebration of John’s Life with Reception will follow at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham in the Cliffside Hall from 1-3pm.

We have nothing but warm memories of Jock. From hearing his snowplow in the pre-dawn hours clearing the way for the milk truck, to his big friendly wave as he rumbled by on his Goldwing, Jock was always kind, friendly and humble.
I learned of Jock’s wicked sense of humour at a young age, when no Halloween was complete without a visit to the Blacklaw’s house for a chat with Jock’s talking pumpkin! His compassion for others shone thru in his work to establish our local volunteer fire department, and he watched over vulnerable neighbours without fanfare. I hope you find comfort in knowing that Jock was truly one of the ‘good ones’.
