Lenny Boyd

In Memorial

Lenny Boyd

Boyd: Lindsay Alan (Lenny)
1934 – 2015
Bassist and Teacher Extraordinaire

Lindsay died peacefully June 6th at MacKenzie Health Hospital Richmond Hill, of Stage 4 Renal cancer.
This loss will be felt by all that knew him, but most keenly by Adele his devoted partner of 42 years, his son Eron Boyd, step-son Randle Fox, his beloved granddaughter Maya, and his loving sister Betty Davies (Gordon) of Vancouver, sadly missed brother-in-law of Charles and Nancy Busby, and fondly remembered by his niece Jacqueline Ghesche.
This loving, gentle soul, will be sadly missed by the many musicians he has played with in his extraordinary 60 year career,  and the many students of Humber College and Mohawk College (as well as private) whose lives have been enriched by his gifts as  a teacher.
Lindsay was born at the family farm on Collingwood’s Blue Mountain moving into Wasaga beach in summer where his family owned the ‘Miramar’ summer cottages on the beach.
Lenny had a passion for music and for performing to the very best you could do, then growing further he re-instilled this in his students and his family.
His playing career covered North America and the Caribbean, playing with many Jazz greats such as Teddy Wilson and Duke Ellington, touring the U.S.A. with Don Thompson’s group, also Jackie and Roy.
Two seasons with the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Toronto, and bassist for the house rhythm section at the historic Town Tavern, backing the many jazz greats visiting there.
Never losing sight of his sense of self (or his sense of humor) he faced the inevitable end as he had faced his life- with good grace and a positive outlook.
Lindsay has been cremated according to his wishes and a Memorial of this extraordinary life will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, 905-936-3477, on Thursday July 23, 2015 with visitation from 11am until time of Memorial Service at 12 noon.
For those who wish donations in Lenny’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Tottenham and District Horticultural Society would be appreciated by the family.     www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com

Lenny, you taught me how to play bass properly, with passion and love. Since 1979, you spirit has been with me each time I played a note on the Fender bass that you got me when mine was stolen.
I would have come to the funeral but found out to late that you left us.
Thank you Lenny for taking me on as a student.
