Marjorie Elizabeth McGoey passed away peacefully Friday April 21, 2023, surrounded by her children
Marjorie McGoey was in her 96th year. Marjorie was the life long partner and beloved wife of Tom (deceased) for 43 years. Cherished mother of Tod (Donna), MaryJane (Mike) Lorraine (Mark) Rosanne (Mike) and Jackie (John)
Granny will be missed by her grandchildren Ben (Kathryn), Mark, Mitch (Susannah), Chad, Mali, Marisa, Tye, Devon and Brock and her great granddaughter Quinn.
Marj was the last surviving member of the Porter family from Beeton. She will have a great reunion with her 11 siblings and their spouses. Connie, Winnie (Harold), George (Noreen) Nancy (Fred), Grace (Claire), Jean (Jim), Jim (Thelma), Helen, Eileen, Agnes (Spence) and Kay (Jim)
Marj worked for 12 years at the Toronto Star until she was married. After all her children were in school she worked at the family business McGoey Brothers Insurance Company for over 30 years.
She was intelligent, hardworking, funny, and was always up for some fun. She loved to tell a good joke and loved puzzles, jeopardy, scrabble and a good card game.
The family would like to thank Simcoe Village and Simcoe Manor for the great care they have given Marjorie over the last 12 ½ years.
Visitation will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham, on Friday May 5, 2023 from 4-8pm and the Funeral Mass will be Saturday May 6, 2023 at 11:30am at St James Catholic Church Colgan,2118 Adjala Tecumseth Townline, Tottenham, ON, followed by a reception at Rod Abrams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Hearing Society would be greatly appreciated.

I have fond memories of Aunt Marj, and tremendous respect for the brilliant life she led and legacy she leaves. A loving wife – mother – grandmother, but also an astute businesswoman, ahead of her time, who contributed greatly to the success of the family business with her accounting and office management knowledge and skills. If that wasn’t challenging enough (keeping the five of you in line at home and trying to keep Uncle Tom and Barney in line at work), she also had time to tend to one of the nicest gardens on Queen street and volunteer her service to the community.
I will remember her brilliant mind – that keen memory for interesting facts, (family) history, and hobby of restoring old artifacts. I also remember her for her patience and calm demeanor, how accepting she was of Tom’s frolics, Jackie’s ongoing zookeeping, and her kids’ teenage antics. She was a true leader, teacher, and business person and leaves behind an amazing legacy in all of you, her grandchildren, the solid foundation she laid at McGoey Insurance, and the lives she touched in the community.
