Marlene, age 90, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 23, 2025 at Southlake Health. She is survived by her daughters Kim (Louis), Karen (Ray); stepsons Ken (Carmen), Jeff (Caroline); 12 grandchildren Luke (Jordyn), Marc (Kacy), Thomas (Julianna), Nick, Nicholas (Meghan), Megan (Martin), Debbie, Elias, Aaron, Mitchell, Jaclyn, Mark; 3 great grandchildren Jackson, Beau, Brooks; nieces Lori (Ed), Brenda, Donna (Scoop) and nephew Ted. Predeceased by her husband Murray, son Tom (Irene), stepson Warren (Laurie), mother Gladys, father Thor, and sister Joan (Pat).
Marlene was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba. She served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Aylmer, Ontario, where she met her first husband, William Eubank, and father of her 3 children. Marlene adapted to the nomadic military lifestyle, making lifelong friends at each posting from France, to Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. No matter where she lived, Marlene applied her sewing skills to make her children’s clothing, doll clothes, dresses, gowns and coats for others. Marlene settled in Vancouver, B.C. in 1973, where she remained until after the passing of her second husband, Murray Deacon. Marlene worked as a payment officer for the BC Workers Compensation Board for 26 years. She was an elected member of the Co-Op Board of their Vancouver residence until moving to King City, Ontario in 2006. Marlene returned to King City to spend the rest of her years with her children and grandchildren. She adapted once again, becoming an active member of the Red Hatters Society and Travel Coordinator of the King City Seniors Centre. Marlene spent her last 3 years at Kingsway Place Retirement Residence, reveling in the services she so deserved and actively participating in the many activities they offered. No matter where she lived, Marlene was known as the “party girl”, organizing and attending events from birthday parties to bingo to euchre and ballroom dancing! Marlene cherished her time with friends and family and being able to be part of her great grandchildren’s lives.
Marlene was a loving, fun and grateful mom, step-mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed.
