Cameron Neil

Cameron: Neil Edward;

Neil Edward Cameron, 72, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, after suffering a heart attack, with his beloved wife Jane by his side following a day they had enjoyed together. His passing brings an end to years of living with ankylosing spondylitis.

Born on June 8, 1953, as the fourth of five children to Allan and Monica Cameron, Neil was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord and was committed to his beliefs. He was a skilled craftsman who loved to work with wood, so much so that he had just finished a beautiful restoration of a neighbour’s chair from the 1800s. He was also a devoted cribbage player who took great joy in his victories—always hoping his opponents wouldn’t “make their pillow too wet crying themselves to sleep” after he beat them.

Neil loved his family deeply, albeit in ways that weren’t always apparent. In recent years, he had committed to reflecting on his life and experiences and was working courageously to repair relationships where he could. This journey of self-reflection showed the man he was becoming.

He leaves behind his wife Jane; his children Fiona Proctor (married to Jon Proctor, grandsons Jeremy and Ryan Proctor), Lachlan Cameron (married to Stacy Cameron, grandsons Joshua and Parker Cameron), Dugald Cameron (partner to Amanda Fowlie), and Morrah Jacubiek (partner to Mike Jacubiek, granddaughter Kamryn Haeny); his four siblings, Sandy Cameron, Helen Coombs (the late Gary Coombs), Katherine Cameron, and Jamie Cameron (and wife Arlene), and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at New City Church, 1110 Stellar Drive, Newmarket, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:00am. A reception will follow in the New City Church reception hall.

Interment will take place at McNeil Cemetery, 633405 Artemisia-Glenelg Townline, Priceville, at 3:00pm. This is quite a distance from the funeral service; please do not feel obliged to make the trip.

Please consider donating to Ontario Farmland Trust. Neil was passionate about preserving Ontario’s farmland. Arrangements entrusted to Rod Abrams Funeral Home, Tottenham. Online condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed and can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/live/f4vH8N7PsnI

My dear cousin Tom – yes it was a shock, but now I’m looking back over the last few weeks and Neil was certainly dropping hints! He’d had a great week and had completed many work projects, the chickens had been slaughtered. I think he was just tired. I am eternally grateful his passing was so swift and painless- for a man who has had his health challenges for so many years, it was a gift to not linger. Thank you for your support and friendship over so many years. I am surrounded by our wonderful family and friends… eternally grateful. Love to all of you in BC x0x0x0x

To Jane, Dugald, Lachlan, Fiona, and Morrah:

I want to send my deepest condolences to all of you. Neil was always a steadfast role model as I grew up. Even as a child I was amazed by his patience, kindness, and incredible laugh. He allowed us to explore carpentry, build forts in the purest and most imaginative ways, and learn the importance of hard work. I have thought of Neil many times as I have grown into a man and a parent. I know I will continue to in the years to come.

I will remember him fondly, and how much he adored all of you.

I am a better person for having known him.

I knew Neil through my mom, a high school friend of his. I have few, but fond, memories of ‘Chicken’ Neil as he was referred to at our house. We would hear stories of Desdimona and Esmirelda, the chickens he would gift in exchange for homemade wine on his visits. He had a memorable laugh and talked about wanting to write a book.

He had such fun researching for it and weaving a very believable tale from most unbelievable circumstances! He had his yearly 10 week run of chickens slaughtered a few days before his passing – I guess he thought his job was done! Please say “Hi” to your Mom Carol. Love to all, Jane and family x0x0x

Our family and sending love to your family in this hard time. We know he will be met with care in heaven. Geoff fondly remembers talking to Neil about beekeeping, woodworking, and local history over the years.
We are keeping you all in our thoughts.
    All our love,

Thank you Laur for sharing in the service with us and visiting with Fiona. We all have wonderful memories from those grade school years at Tec South when friends in the neighbourhood would come over. Our love to your parents – Jane and family x0x0x

Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. May the peace of Jesus bring solace to your sorrows. Neil was deeply committed christian and he fought the good fight in faith and now with the Lord Jesus in heaven. I will miss his playful jokes and warm smile. His love for friends and neighbors was evidence in many ways and was reflecting his love for Christ Jesus.

Dearest Jane, with great sadness I wish to offer my condolences at the sudden Homegoing of your beloved husband Neil, and my dear friend and brother in Christ. He finished his race wonderfully and I’m happy for him, but we sure do miss him down here. Your friend, always, Susan

With thanks Susan for your kind words, for your cards and the lovely orchid. I will try my best to keep it going! Yes, Neil’s race is done and to be honest, he was getting a tad tired. It was lovely to see two of your boys and families. Much love, Jane and family
