Penny ByersPenny Byers

Suddenly on December 8th, Penny Byers (nee O’Halloran) in her 69th year passed away. She leaves behind her best friend and husband of 47 years Rick Byers. She will be deeply missed by her son David (Alyssia), daughter Shannon (Matt), her beloved grandchildren Hailey, Erin, Jackson, and Andrew, and her beloved pets. Dear sister to Darrel (Lynn), Danny (Abby), Ivan (Joanne), Murray (Sherry), and predeceased by sister Loretta (Don). Treasured Aunt, Cousin, Volunteer, and Friend.

Penny worked throughout her career as a devoted nurse. She loved to spend her time reading a good book by the pool, playing cards, gardening, crocheting, quilting, and baking her famous pies and cookies. In her retirement, she found much enjoyment in social groups, travel, volunteering, and most importantly having more time to spend with her family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477 on Sunday December 18, 2022 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Memorial service will be held in the chapel on Monday December 19, 2022 at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Joseph’s Hospital where Penny worked throughout her career.

Our condolences to your family. We were friends of Heather and Bill’s and had met Penny a few times through that association. There were not many conversations with Heather that Penny’s name didn’t come up. How fortunate to be lifelong friends to carry both your families through the good times and times of sorrow.

It is with deep and profound sadness and grief that our family has lost a simply wonderful human being way too early and unexpectedly. Her absence will be profound. My heart goes out to Uncle Rick, Dave & Liz and Shannon & Matt as well as the rest of the family. Aunt Penny you will be missed deeply. Your smile, your laugh, your humour, your warmth, your welcoming, your devotion to your family and friends, your zest for life and just who you were as a person will be something we will all miss but also cherish that we were lucky enough to have while we had it. You were the one in the family who most saw the world the same way I did and I will miss that connection we shared. RIP Aunt Penny. We love you.

    To the Byers family,
Words cannot express my profound shock and sadness to learn of Penny’s passing. I worked with Penny for six years in my role as VP at St. Joe’s. In that time, I found Penny to be a dependable and strong nursing leader. She was always able to find a solution to whatever challenge came her way. I appreciated her sense of humour, calm and matter of fact approach. Although I have not stayed in touch with Penny, I would still think of her fondly after all these years. She will be deeply missed. Praying for the family’s strength to get through this difficult time.
