So sorry to hear of Phil’s passing.

Like Tom Brown and Ross Connell, we met at McMaster and its University Naval Training Division. We were part of a band of 10 then young men who spent every Thursday night at McMaster training at the local naval reserve division HMCS STAR, and most of us spent about 12 months spread over 3 summers training on the east and west coasts to be commissioned as officers. It was a life-forming experience.

Phil was the only ships diving officer I know who rode an antique Indian motorcycle. One summer he brought it west for a posting in the back of his pick-up, unloaded it at our house near White Rock BC and blasted around Vancouver while visiting us, before continuing to Esquimalt. He was a character to be remembered in a good way as an officer and a gentleman.

My condolences to his all his family and friends. With many, many fond memories.

    Nelly,

So sorry to hear of your loss. As you know, Phil was the best man at my wedding and we were best buds for over 60 years. I will miss him almost as much as you will. May you keep in your memory the best of his happy-go-lucky personality (or was is devil-may-care?) and his marvelous smile.
