Aunt Vi, Trude, Grace, Maddie, and Sterling,

My heart is aching for you all. Uncle Sterl was truly a beautiful soul, and I would always look forward to seeing you during your summer visits. While he was soft spoken and soft hearted, I’ll remember him most for his little smirk and for never passing up an opportunity for a gentle tease – “Got a boyfriend, Meaghan?” He was giving and kind, the type of person who wouldn’t think twice about building a sandbox to keep a three-year old occupied during a family visit to Tottenham.

I last saw Uncle Sterl when he and Aunt Vi surprised Pop for his 90th birthday party, and what a wonderful final memory to have of him – smiling, dancing, and surrounded by family. I have been thinking about you constantly these last few days, but I know your memories and faith will comfort you as you celebrate his wonderful life. Sending all my love.

Dear Aunt Vi, Trudy, Sterling, and families. I think my first impression upon meeting Uncle Sterl back in 1976 or 77, was that he was a quiet, gentle soul who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Soft spoken, unassuming. Until I saw him play 120’s! I had played 120’s before meeting Bev, but it was only upon meeting Vi and Sterling at the Cake’s that I learned that 120’s could be a violent, bare knuckles sport! I don’t know how they didn’t all have broken knuckles by the end of their visits back to Newfoundland, slamming their hands down on that table in the Cake’s kitchen, and shaking the bulbs in the light fixture in the kitchen down below! He loved everyone, and everyone loved him! RIP Uncle Sterl!

Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of wonderful Uncle Sterling. He was truly one of the kindest and loving men I ever met. Whenever he visited when we were kids, he always took time to spend with us and play with us. And then I got the opportunity to see him interact with my own son in the same way. He loved his family and his family loved him.

He will be missed. We wish we could be there with you all as you celebrate this beautiful life.

    Violet,and families,

I was sad to hear of Sterlings passing. I remember him in Lamaline visiting Mom & Dad (Rita & Wes Foote) and both of them over to your house having meals together and enjoying the great game of cards. He was a very gentle and caring person, and Mom loved to carry in good fun as she would say. She often brought a tear to Sterling and it didn’t take much. I also remember the year we were in Lamaline and it was Sterlings birthday so Mom wanted to have a birthday party for him. He so much appreciated it. He is now with Mom and Dad and I am sure they are all having a Party and Mom playing the organ singing hymms. I will be keeping you in my prayers in the days ahead. Hold onto the memories and keep strong. God Bless.

Uncle Sterl was truly one of my favorites. I can remember him always being such a strong and powerful- yet gentle and caring man. He used to take me to watch soccer games during our many summer visits to Tottenham. I can also remember him taking me out in the speedy sliver colored Fiero- and letting me drive !!!

In later years, I remember he and Aunt Vi being the most gracious of hosts at their cozy dwelling in Lamaline- great grub, a few tunes and some great laughs. Cathy and I cherish those memories.

I know that you all have so many fond memories of your Dad. He provided you both with a solid childhood- giving you opportunities that we today- as parents- strive to give our very own kids. He was truly a role model and had a very positive impact on me as child. He always made time to include the younger folk – entertaining, good natured teasing and making us part of the fun !
