It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Stark Chalmers on June 25, 2025, at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario, at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of Jane Chalmers (née Wylie), Bill was a devoted father to William (Sandra), and Alan, grandfather to William (Kaitlin), Hudson and Meghan (Kody) and great-grandfather to Oliver.
Bill was a man of many talents and interests. He was a musician, golfer, and successful businessman. He loved puzzles, cryptic crosswords and the New York Times Spelling Bee (regularly achieving the genius level). He was an avid sports fan, rooting on his beloved Blue Jays, Buffalo Bills and Rory McIlroy.
Bill will be remembered for his quick wit and good humour. Even in the last stages of his illness he was always ready with a joke for his support workers and nurses. He was a warm and charming man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the excellent nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, and the dialysis department at Stevenson Memorial Hospital for the care they provided to Bill over the last few years. Particular thanks go to those at the Matthews House Hospice who worked so hard to ensure that his final days were as comfortable as possible. For those who wish, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Matthews House Hospice.
The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477 on Sunday July 27, 2025 from 11:30am until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 12pm. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home’s Cliffside Hall. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com
