Dear George, Jen, George Jnr, Stephen, Mrs Maitland & extended family. We first met Gerald in June 1979 when the family moved next door to us. I was in the front yard & this wee red haired boy said, “Hi, my name is Gerald Cave “. Then he proceeded very proudly to tell me, “my Dad can fix anything!!!”. That was Gerald, he never changed.
We hope, wherever he is that he has a wonderful great big vegetable garden. He had so many plans re what he was going to plant. Jim & I were so lucky to connect with Gerald again when he & Jen moved in with George a few years ago. He was still the lovely friendly red haired young man we first met all these years ago.
RIP Gerald, you are missed by all the neighbours on Eastern Ave & their families. Gone far to soon.

I don’t recall how old we were exactly when mine and Gerald’s friendship started, but I do recall the day. It was very near the end of the school year, just before summer break started. I was walking home from school and Gerald rode up on his bike. There was no need for introductions as we both knew who the other was. He asked me, “Hey do you want to hang out sometime?” to which I replied “ya sure” and then he rode off. Within a few days, perhaps a week or more, one afternoon there came a knock on my door and there he was .

And so it began….We spent that summer riding around on our bikes and hanging out, watching countless horror movies rented from Bon View Video, listening to music and perhaps a few other things which I do not bare mentioning (What happens in dodge, stays in dodge). His family, Joyce and George welcomed me into their home and always had a seat at the table for me.

And so it went…through the years. We progressed on, growing up together, although our paths would often diverge, sometimes for months, sometimes for years at a time. He’d pursue his life, as I did mine, but always sooner or later, somehow or another, our journeys would converge again, and it was if we would simply pick up the conversation where it had left off whether a few months or even years between.
Our friendship was that true and that honest and that easy. Gerald was a strong and loyal friend, through thick and thin, high and low. Whether moving a couch or dumping a body. I could always count on him. (joking about the body part).

So now our paths have parted once more my friend. I wish you well on your newest journey and hope you find joy and peace upon it. And, as always I look forward to the day when we meet again, so that we can sit down and raise a glass, share a song or two and pick up where we left off.

    Till then brother.

To Jen and the Cave family. I would like to express my deepest condolences in the passing of our dear friend and co-worker Gerald. Gerald was a great guy to work with for the past several years. He never stopped making all the guys at the shop laugh, and everyone enjoyed the days that Gerald was here. He made even the tough days go by with some laughter. As I have said before, we have a Gerald sized hole in our hearts here at Altruck. This place will never be the same and he is already sorely missed.

My sincere condolences to your family and everyone that loved Gerald.

Growing up alongside Gerald at TPS I remember his magnetic energy and bright smile. He always had our class in stitches, especially when teaming up with Colin.

After school and on weekends I remember riding around on our BMX bikes and going to the park, exploring.

Of course, like many girls I had a crush on him. His leather jacket and confident charm was irresistible to any grade 6 girl.

Sending love and prayers to your family.

To the Cave family, I offer my deepest sympathies.
?I did not know Gerald well, having met him him only a few times, through my sister Wynne and brother-in-law Sonny, and through stories shared.
I pray that your happy memories, your faith, and the love of your family and friends will comfort you during this great loss.
I would like to share the beautiful words of this poem with you and in memory of Gerald and his generosity of spirit…

A Limb Has Fallen From Our Family Tree:

A limb has fallen from our family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me”.
Remember the good times, the laughter, the songs.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again

I had the priviledge of growing up with Gerald. We were often in the same class in Tottenham Public School. He was always such a gregarious character and strong of heart. I had the good fortune to become friends with him again these past few years on social media. We would always talk about music and subculture. He was a fiercely intelligent, kind and funny person. My heart is sad for his family and friend, but I know he will live on in our memories of him. He truly was larger than life.
